Many breweries procure their hops right here in the Northwest. But this beer features the Galaxy hop from Australia, a country famously populated by England’s outcast convicts. Outcast IPA employs these hops aggressively from hop back to dry hopping stages. Yet the result is a balanced and bronzy ale, with medium hop bitterness complemented by moderate maltiness, showcasing aromas and flavors reminiscent of passion fruit.

Draught into a growler. Pours a mostly clear light amber color with very little white head on it. Nose is fairly hoppy, with some nice grapefruit and subtle resiny notes coming off of it. Taste is fairly bitter and a little bit sticky, with a subtle residual sweetness on the end. Quite yummy, and I’d drink it again happily.

One of those beers where, not being overwhelmed, I wanted to try more from them. Luckily, Margaret got me another. I love my kids.

Very hop forward IPA. Almost crotchy b.o. hop aroma and flavor. Finishes fairly smooth and tropical. No alcohol detected.

On tap at the brewery. Clear dark yellow pour with a white head. Nice tropical fruit hop highlights with dankness of pine and resin hop lowlights . Very well balanced. Good body and mouthfeel. Nice malty backbone. Impressive.

Amber with beige head, nice sharp, biting hops in the aroma and taste. IPAs are a dime a dozen in the NW, but this one is a head of the pack.

16.9 oz bottle, bottled on 4/7/14. Pours clear golden yellow with a medium frothy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is piney hops with a little fruit and some stinky tar.

The flavor is sweet bready malt with a little fruit and a big piney, grassy, tarry harsh bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a nice IPA. Not my favorite flavor profile.

Draught at The Beer Junction, Seattle
Blond color with creamy head. The aroma is a bit cheesy and yeasty, with some hops. Malt flavor, but with a tiring character; strong bitterness, the hops are mostly resiny, some bitter oranges but the fruitiness overall is low.
A bit messy, mostly the aroma should be tuned.

Bottle at Belmont Station. Pours orange amber with a tiny off-white head and a fruity aroma. There is a full-bodied caramel malt flavor with a nicely bitter finish.

On tap @ Collins Pub. Pours bright medium golden with thin lacy white head. Aroma is sweet light caramel malt with big earthy hops - sharply herbal and floral. Taste is clean, medium sweet caramel malt with very light body. Hops are crisp, punchy, and earthy, though not big in a traditional sense. Light floral hop notes on the finish. Not a typical DIPA, but a different hop blend that gives some interesting flavors. And, it’s Crux, quality overall is top notch.
