COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Many breweries procure their hops right here in the Northwest. But this beer features the Galaxy hop from Australia, a country famously populated by Englandís cast out convicts. Cast Out IPA employs these hops aggressively from hop back to dry hopping stages. Yet the result is a balanced and bronzy ale, with medium hop bitterness complemented by moderate maltiness, showcasing aromas and flavors reminiscent of passion fruit.

500ml bottle. Tropical fruit aroma with some citrus and pine resin hop notes. Pours pale golden colored with a thick off white head with excellent retention and some lacing. Starts with the sweetness of tropical fruit hops that has notes of pineapple and passion fruit with a bit of citrus. Finishes dry but very smooth with light pine resiny hop bitterness to go with citric acidity and flavor. Nice IPA.

500 ml bottle poured a clear gold with a lasting white head. Aromas of bread, dank bud, earthiness and pine resin. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, earthiness, dank bud and light citrus with a smooth dry lingering bitter dank earthy finish.

Draught, 1/13/16 at Tip Tap Room.
Highly clear (touch of chill haze) blonde body shows light carbonation and a small white head with moderately-low to low retention.
Nose is catty, with various stone fruits, biscuits and a touch of dry, lemony citrus notes. Not overly aromatic and though the cattiness isnít offensive and actually reminds me of a pleasant funk quality, thatís certainly not acceptable here. No alcohol noted in the nose.
Lemons, pears, nectarine and biscuity malts all combine for a fairly mild character overall. Attenuation is good, with just a touch of honey and bread-like sweetness. Thereís more catty flavors, however, and nothing is particularly bright or overly flavorful here. Very herbal, dank and subtle. Texture and carbonation are a bit watery/tired and things could use a little boost/tightening in that department. Anyways, at least itís not resinous.
Light, for sure, which I have no problem with inherently, but if youíre going to go for a reserved/light rendition, why the hell is it 8%??! Perhaps a touch of alcohol warmth on the end. No real contest with New England IPAs....

4 ounce sample on tap at Davis Beer Shoppe. 18 days old. Aroma has some light dank and a little cheese character. Some citrus, too. Transparent golden body with a small, yellowish head. Starts with a grapefruit hop flavor with some earthiness. Some husky, chewy maltiness in the middle. Finishes with a little dank hop flavor. Fairly bitter, but not overly balanced.

Flight pour on tap at the brewery tap room (Bend, Or). Pours a nice gently hazed golden hue, a subtle amber glow, but a bit pale overall. Mellow bubbly cascades, frothy whitish head atop remains a thicker ringer, mellow film atop with ok lacing overall. Aromas are green and melon, a telltale Galaxy appeal that remains green, a bit fleshy melon dominant with bitter green leafy life, some florals, subtle tropical appeal. That cool melon Galaxy appeal is fresh, firm, and truly prevails. Initial is lighter end of the fold in body, some distinct green melon, fleshy and bitter with earth, mellow body but a jab of ABV, some fruity nectar gives a touch of sweetness with a mellow creaminess. Backend is bitter, a touch fruity with some middling to firmer bitterness, biting into flowers comes back into focus as we finish up. This one never gets heavy, reamins bitter as a more fleshy melon and Galaxy driven nose leads as usual to a firmly bitter but a hop profile as we press on that doesnít necessarily inspire or intrigue. Some bitterness, melon, some pineapple and pears. A unique oddity that ends up pretty enjoyable albeit not spectacular, subtle black pepper notes

Bottle. Pours a bright, cloudy orange color with a thin, off white head. Strong, citrusy aroma with a hint of hops. Smooth taste. Solid blend of hops, citrus and grapefruit. Not too strong. Canít sense the 8%. But very good.

On tap at Bethany. Pours a clear orange color with a medium white head. A big perfumy sweet melon nose. The flavor is similar with lots of late boil hops, perfume, citrus, some sweeter caramel. Easygoing.

Sort of interesting Crux bottle from Whole Foods. Pours a clear golden color with a large white head. A big fruity hop nose, some leafy floral notes. The flavor is mellow, fairly dry, fresh green hops, low bitterness, big skunky dank hops. Very well made, clean and tasty. Lovely.
