Draught. Pours a slightly hazy dark golden color with a moderate white head on there. Nose has quite a bit of corn and a bit of other grains in there. Taste is slightly sweet, with definite corn elements to it. Seems like an unremarkable example of the style for me.

On tap at Bend pub. Pours out a light golden topped with a white head. Nose is a nice mix of grain and grassy hops. Taste is as the nose with a nice cereal malt and the light grassy hops.

Slightly darker than average pilsner pour, white head rather short-lived. Catty Eurohops with an unexpected fruitiness. Thereís a perfumy rose thing going on that is entirely unexpected. Flavors are a bit on the sweet side. They include the expected cereal and grassy hops, but also bring a strong and unexpected blast of apple. Itís a strange note for a pils, but it works fairly well as long as one doesnít hold it to style. A real nice lager.

At APEX with Stephen. Pours clear yellow no head like cider. Aroma is fresh light grainy straw and raw barley, sparking apples. Taste is light fresh with full grain straw flavor, drinkable with nice flavor.

On tap at Apex. Pour is clear lemon peel with a frothy white head and great lacing. Sweet malty, corn, fruity, grainy, lightly grassy, and cereal aroma. Taste is cereal, somewhat chalky, minerals, grass, biscuit, and doughy with a crisp dry finish. Light body with high carbonation. Nice clean pils.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2014 Draft at Higgins, Portland. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted grain/bread, sugar cookie), moderately hoppy (honeysuckle flowers, herbs), with notes of spearmint gum, honey, minerals, lemon/lime zest. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. Ok, so...fuck me. This is my second draft sample at Higgins and this is Gaenstaller level quality. Last night I thought it best not to rate it, considering I was having my mind blown and didnít trust a first experience to a 4.6. But yes, oh sweet mercy yes, this second sample is just as lip-smackingly incredible. Every time I smell the glass, I just laugh and slap the table and say itís not possible. And in the mouth, so juicy, so fluffy, so succulent, so clean...this is the best lager Iíve had in the US, and quite nearly the world (Gaenstaller will likely always wear multiple crowns in that race). And it evokes some of the same giddy, tear-inducing involuntary response as Andyís brews. Thankfully I discovered this on my very first night in Portland by pure chance, so I can drown in this straight through next weekend. Absolutely insane, and a must-try for picky pils and keller geeks...it just does not get much better. NOTE: after drinking like 6 pints of this godly nectar at Higgins over the course of 5 days, I went to APEX and it was on tap there, so I got a small pour...sadly, it was only about a 3.7 there. Maybe an old keg, I donít know, but all I will say is that the keg (which blew today, dammit) at Higgins was divine, so even if itís not like that all the time, itís heartening to know it *can* be. YMMV.

Good pilsner, crisp, clean, sharp edges, but keeping it refreshing and drinkable.

Pilsener beats American Pale Lager 60% of the time and works every time. Very transparent hazy light yellow. Head was chopped off abruptly. Smell is light hay and grassiness and tastes about the same but with a wee hop action and breadiness. Worth a guzz.

Tap at Imperial Bottle Shop and Taproom. Very gentle grassy nose, Thin pale straw color. Smooth light grass / hopping intensifies a bit in mid / finish is light and sort of sweet. Thin-medium body. Very well done, refreshing and balanced stuff.
