COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tough Love is bold but nuanced, an homage of sorts to the traditional Russian Imperial Stouts and the ruling style of Catherine the Great. We Construct it with dark, roasted malts, malted rye, and oak-smoked wheat, and then banished it for nine months in Kentucky Bourbon Barrels. The aging smooths out the edges on an otherwise bold statement, and bitterness succumbs to tender strokes of vanilla beans, hints of dried cherries, and new layers revealing themselves with each sip.

375 ml bottle to snifter (2013 vintage; shared by GAbell). Looks good; a slightly translucent very dark cola with foamy beige head. Smells of dark malt, oak, chocolate, and bourbon. Tastes like it smells with a smooth, medium-bodied mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

Bottle: Many thanks Hannont: Served in a Chouffe glass: Pitch black with a small lively dark brown head. Aromas of roast, cookies, liquorice, vanilla, wood, wood roast, some spices and chocolate. Flavour is good roasty and bitter with a softer and slighter bourbon/vanilla tones, some smooth spice tones, light wood roast/liquorice/liquorice wood, quite nice but a bit more soul/body wouldn’t be bad at all! Aftertaste is bitter, spice, roast, chocolate and wood roast. Low carbo, light fizzy watery mouthfeel, more than medium bodied and a light dry, bitter light watery texture.

375 ml is 2013 vintage, thanks Swarts. Pours a deep black with no light passing, and a lasting beige head. Aroma is roast, bourbon, coffee, cacao, and dark fruit complexity. Flavor is same with a spicy hot boozy character that mellows into a warm dark roasty complexity with a tobacco sweetness. Full bodied, active carbonation, complex bitter finish.

Bottle shared by Jim. Thanks man. Near black body with a thin beige cap. Lots of oak and bourbon aromas. Super smooth. Thin body for a double digit abv stout. Abv elegantly disguised. Lingering chocolates and gentle bourbon. Delicious.

Black in color. Thin tan head that dissipates quickly. Minimal lacing. The aroma consist of peanut butter and warm toast. It smells like popcorn. There is a strong sense of liquor in the taste. The finish is like drinking a red wine. Very complex beer. The taste starts as a potent beer and finishes with a wine taste. Confused as if I like it or not.

375 ml bottle- Pours black with a a one finger head that reduces. Aroma is licorice, molasses, peanut butter, oak. The taste is more oak than the aroma led on, strong, red wine is strong, odd beer. Unique, strange, not the best, but interesting.

Pitch black pour. Not sure why a 375ML force carbed bottle is corked, capped and then waxed. anyway light bubbles in the head. Smells like licorice, smoke and chocolate. There’s a lot of smoke in this beer! chewy with a lot of chocolate, vanilla and dried dates. Oily finish.
