2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Crystal Springs train wreck tasting. One of the better beers by a mile, if only because hatch chilies help mask the worst flaws Iím sure. Nose of roasted green chili. Magenta brown. Taste of roasted green chiles, some caramel malts, and breadiness, hot chili finish. Fine for lovers of spicy chili beers.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle @ home picked up at Wilburís Fort Collins. Cool to see these guys getting some distro to Fort Collins. Pours a fairly clear, a bit hazy reddish orange appearance with no lasting head. Aroma is like chili powder along with stewed tomatoes and a weird, light hint of citrus. Thereís a bit juicy, orange citrusy flavor to go along with some green chilies and mild spiciness. Kind of one dimensional. Iím not much of a fan.

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Head is initially very small, fizzy/frothy, light brown, fully diminishing.
Body is cloudy medium to dark amber.
Aroma is lightly malty (grain, husks), lightly hoppy (grapefruit), with a strong note of scorched vegetables (green bell pepper, green chiles, zucchini).
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean.
Medium body, syrupy/watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic/burning.
Pretty hideous, to be honest...nose is pretty much just vegetable/pepper juice, like opening a can of green chiles...the beer aromas are all but hidden behind that. So if thatís your idea of a nice aroma, have at it...I like chiles, but chile juice isnít my idea of an enticing beverage. No fun in the mouth either...dirty aftertaste and an icky mouthfeel make this a certified drain pour.

Tastes like a hot pepper, smells like a hot pepper. Imagine a generic Cerveza with a pepperoncini in it and you have the idea.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: DEC 30, 2012 Poured into standard pint glass.
Very hazy, darker golden color. Poured hard and yet there was minimal head which dissipated almost immediately. Minimal to non-existant lacing. Dominated by the aroma of hatch chili peppers. Flavor is almost entirely hatch chili peppers. Finishes almost sweet with a little heat. The flavor of pepper lingers for a bit. Light body with moderate to minimal carbonation. Fairly smooth and drinkable. Overall, I enjoyed this beer. Chili beers are a bit of a novelty to me, but the flavor here is not overbearing or unpleasant, just one-dimensional. Would definitely consider drinking again, especially at that price (six dollars for 650 mL).

2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
bottle. clear dull brick red body with a small off-white head which dies far too quickly (as happens with ALL of their beer...) so thereís chiles in this beer, okay, but it actually smells more like chili, as in meat and bean chili (shut up, texas): the canned tomato resemblance is striking; the stewed onion, pepper and bean note uncanny. medium body throughout; ample carbonation to froth across the middle and release the bracing heat of the chiles, where sweetish amber malts give it a chewiness and roundness. the finish fizzles away in a wash of capsaicin and bubbles, thinning quickly and leaving an oily, buzzing, moderately-hot aftertaste. pretty basic and unidimensional, but thankfully doesnít taste as bad as it smells, though I have to assume that the heat is overpowering any of the chili stew vegetables notes that are present in the nose.
