2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Golden colour with a white head that disappears quickly. Grassy and malty aroma. A slightly sweet malty taste with a thin body and a sweet aftertaste with not much bitterness.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Light grassy hops balance the fresh grainy aroma. Clear, brilliant, gold with shy, white head that diminishes rapidly to a light cover and ring. Plenty of fine-bubbled carbonation. Grainy cereal malts are offset nicely by apparent spicy, grassy hop flavour and light bitterness. Light, refreshing body with strong carbonation. Lager glass, fridge temp. Bottle (brought back from Cuba by a vacationing friend, May 2005).

I don’t know if it was the fact that all I drank was run in cuba before this beer or what, but it sure knocked me on my butt for a bland beer. Below average teste, not much to discover, this is why Cuba is known for their Cigars, not beer.

Deep gold colour than Cristal. Thick persistent white head. Aroma is malty and dusty. A touch of fruit. Not that good.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: JUN 13, 2005 (Bottle 35 cl) Nice pilsener golden with a fairly decent and very white head. If I read the back label correctly one could get the notion that there’s more corn than barley in this. But I don’t get the chicken-fodderish feeling here as most often with beers of high corn-content. Actually a very straight and hoppy lager. Comes in a stylish longneck bottle. 290305

The best analogy for this beer is a pianist who perfectly plays chopskins or a diver who executes a perfect single pike off of the high dive: there is nothing wrong with the taste of this beer, but it leaves much to be desired.
This beer is brewed by Bucanero, S.A. in Hoguin, Cuba. S.A. stands for Sociedad Anónima in Spanish, and it is similar to our notion of corporation. I didn’t know that they had corporations in Cuba, and at 97 cents a 350 ml bottle here in Panama, I doubt that this is bottled for the Cuban domestic market.
The color is brass, lighter than copper, but darker than almost any latin american golden lager than I can think of. I don’t notice aroma very much, so I wouldn’t but much stock into the idea that the aroma is almost non-existent.
When you first drink it you get a very pleasing, surprising hop taste for someone living in latin america. Wow, could this be an execellent beer. As the beer travel through your mouth to your throat, it is like it evaporates. The best description for mouthfeel or aftertaste is water or air. Where did the beer go?
With many golden lagers the (bad) tastes become more apparent the more that the beer warms up, which happens quickly here in the jungle. Not with this beer, it stays perfectly.....well, perfectly lacking. There isn’t a single off taste or bad note. But no melody.
I won’t buy this beer again.

Technically, this is not a particularly exceptional beer, but as a beer for drinking on a deck or on the beach, it’s pretty good. It is light and thirst-quenching and offers more flavour than a generic American lager. So if you’re looking for a complex, intriguing beer, forget it, but if you want a cold beer to drink while you smoke a cigar in then sun, it’s hard to do worse.

Different lable than pictured above (at this date). Smells like sour rags and taste like wet hay. Chemical acid finish.
