Bottle from FlacoAlto, thanks! Brown color. Maple syrup in the aroma. Sweet alcoholic flavor with apple, maple syrup. some earthy hops and some distant vinous notes. Earthy bitter aftertaste with burning alcohol.

Pours a deep amber brown with an off white head that lasts a while. Nice aroma of chocolate, brown sugar, roasted malt and a touch of fruit. Great flavor including all of the above, but lacking the sweetness of many barley wines. Good spicy hops on the finish. Nearly thick and creamy on the palate. Really good stuff. Viva la Mexico!

Big Bottle. Sweet molasas, some carmalized malted candy and roasted grains.. Dark red body with thin head. Sweet caramel and barley grain malt flavor at first. Then sugary sweet mild citrus with some cohoclate and more barley and caramel. Filling brew good night cap.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
served on cask at papago...
clear burgundy brown with a soft toasted almond colored head and random spots of lace.
very comforting aroma... chocolate, toasted nuttiness, roasted grains, muted orange, faint pine, nearly burnt caramel/brown sugar and lots of perfumey flowers.
surprisingly, the palate is not sweet... or harsh... or alcoholic... i*m confused. it*s lightly astringent from the roast but it is so well proportioned and smooth... seemingly like it*s already aged! flavors of orange, raisins, caramel-y butterscotch without the sweet, chocolate covered toasted nuts, faint pine, a light spiciness (cinnamon, maybe pepper), grassy herbal hops and a dry floral finish. buttery texture from the cask. medium to full bodied without any stickiness.
low residual sugar makes it crazy easy to drink... even without carbonation or bitterness.
it does lack a bit of complexity but this is the beez neez...

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask at Papago. Poured a clear dark orange color with an off white head. Smelled of pear, apple, grain alcohol, and flower blossom. Medium bodied, probably lightened up by the hefty alcohol presence. Moderately bitter and bone dry with a warming alcohol effect reminiscent of a nice peaty scotch. Very woody flavor with a tobacco accent. The flesh fruits in the aroma did not come out in the flavor. Interesting and unlike any barleywine Ive ever tasted.

On cask at Papago. While I agree with the last sentence of ajms review, I disagree with his high marks. This brew pours awfully dark for a barleywine and the sweetness isnt balanced. The char and breadcrust are nice, but this gringo thinks the caramel and maple syrup are just too dominant .

CASK at Pap. They have bottles too. This is a beefy beer that takes no crap from your gringo ass. Its Machete in a bottle. Thick with chocolate, nearly burnt caramel, sweet smoke and white pepper. Alcohol balances the sweetness nicely, and the effect is like a brawl in a 200 year old bar with maplewood floors just happened on your tongue.

Sampled at Big Pour Mesa, AZ. Another great surprise. Crystal clear crimson with an eggshell head. Aroma is of dark fruit, brown sugar, caramel, and toffee. A little smoky with coffee flavors and even a touch of nuttiness. Quite thin for its style. This reminded me more of a scottish ale rather than a barleywine but who really cares...I enjoyed it!!! Delicious!!!

Pours brown with a thin white head. Smells of caramel, chocolate, some raisins, figs. Tastes roasty and layered with some fruity hints, molasses, some peaty hints. Very unusual and enjoyable.
