3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Vac (2445) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 6, 2007
Pours with a deep red body with little head and no lacing. It’s sweet and malty with an underlying hop note and a touch of roast. Full bodied, warming and tingly on the tongue from the carbonation.

On tap at Liar’s Club, dark mohogany color with no head, but lots of carbonation. Sweet aroma of molasses and dark malts. Flavor was nothing spectacular, a pretty standard barleywine with some caramel and good hop bite. Palate was weak, no lingering and not that chewy. Enjoyable, but I prefer Stone Old Guardian or a Behemoth to this.

UPDATED: MAY 30, 2007 The first thing that will grab you is the nose. It has a bright toffee/caramel aroma. A friend described it as "almost like a Heath bar." There is a good, off-white head on the first pour of the pitcher, which settled to an even coating. However, the next pour settled quicklly with no coating.
It is a sweet beer that went reminded me of an old ale such as Thomas Hardy’s, only with a lighter mouthfeel.
It went extremely well with Pizza Port’s Coffee/Chocoloate Chip Ice cream.

On tap at PP C-Bad.Pretty deep amber red with next to no head. Aroma of sweet malt . Very slippery on the palate with a little spice and hop along with the sugary malt. Not a lot of bitterness. Very nice to drink with a good finish. Bueno senor!

$5 pintat Pizza Port Carlsbad. Green Day (I love that band) playing in the background. Mild fruity aroma. Little head (carbonation setup). Nice lacing, but dies too quickly. Nice deep red amber color. Sweet, sweet with medium alchohol nose and sting. Great beer. Greater with cheese, or with aging to remove the bite.

On draft at the Stone Bistro.
Mahogany color, off white head, a good looking pour with a nice, light malty aroma. The flavor is a balance between malt and dried fruits. Dangeriously quaffable, this one is.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 bb (5888) - Alamo, California, USA - FEB 20, 2007
Draft. Amber beer with a nice off-white head. Lighter grapefruit/earthy malt aroma. Great balanced flavor with malt/caramel, spice, raisin, and citrus bitterness with slight roast. Lingering caramel and citrus. Fuller bodied. Nice. Slight chocolate tones.

Draft at O’Brien’s. Very sweet aromas off this medium brown pour with barely any head. Banana and dark fruit. Flavors were similar with some caramel and vanilla. Nice hoppy finish too. Not bad. By far the best Mexican beer I have ever had.

On Draft at O’Briens. Served in a pint glass and yes it took me a while to drink. Poured reddish brown witha small head. The nose had some sweet dried fruit in it. The taste was bitter and sweet, with hints of dried fruit. Honestly I thought this was only decent, it wasn’t bad nor was it amazing.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Naven (1000) - Poway, California, USA - JAN 5, 2007
A barley wine from Mexico?? And it’s good? Believe it, it’s true. Totally nailed the style, as the aroma, appearance flavor and palate are all spot on. I expect great things from this brewery.
