750ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours a dark amber color with a small head that rapidly dissipates and leaves no lacing. The aroma is sweet with caramel and dark fruits. The taste is overtly malty with caramel, black cherries, dates and licorice. There is a touch of hot alcohol, but nothing that is too distracting. The mouthfeel is full and malty. The finish is medium in duration with lingering anise. Overall: The first Mexican concoction that I have had that stands its own with the craft beer best. I very much enjoyed this tasty brew.

Shared by Notalush. Lots of cereal grains, caramel in the aroma, pretty sweet. Similar flavor with a fairly rough body, tough carbonation. A bit too sweet for the most part.

Thanks to Notalush for sharing at his last tasting. Moslty clear amber with a thin lasting head. Aroma is orange zest, citrus and fruity esters sweetish crystal malts. Flavor has some slight phenolic yeastiness, light plastic with an herbal turing earthy character and even some dirty weediness with the citrus like hops. Ok sweetness throughout and a moderately smooth finish. Ok BW.

Thanks to mkgrenwel for this - medium amber pour, fairly clear - a lot of bright fruitiness in the nose, with a hint of smoke - leads with some rich spiciness, moderate sweetness, and a lot of cherry-like fruity esters - brown sugar, earthiness, fairly present smoke - quite tasty, and the smoke really adds a lot of character, and makes this beer distinct - nice.

Bottle shared by notalush. Pours a lovely reddish amber. Weak aroma of caramel, maple syrup, and toast. The flavor seems a bit masked by alcohol to me with caramel, brown sugar, toast and some smokiness also present, but not enough to overcome the alcohol flavor. The sugary sweetness and the alcohol compete and never really unify. I realize that most people have rated this beer much higher; I guess it just wasn’t my thing.

Bottle shared at a recent tasting, but things are pretty fuzzy at this point. Deep rich aroma with a soft lovely cocoaish flavour and a bit of light smokiness. Very rich and sweet with lots of nice toastiness. A touch of light cherryish flavour. Rich caramel and cocoa with a light brown sugar flavour. Earthy and toasty with a bit of soft caramel and rich lingering fruit. This is a really lovely barleywine.

Bottle from FlacoAlto, thanks! Brown color. Maple syrup in the aroma. Sweet alcoholic flavor with apple, maple syrup. some earthy hops and some distant vinous notes. Earthy bitter aftertaste with burning alcohol.

Pours a deep amber brown with an off white head that lasts a while. Nice aroma of chocolate, brown sugar, roasted malt and a touch of fruit. Great flavor including all of the above, but lacking the sweetness of many barley wines. Good spicy hops on the finish. Nearly thick and creamy on the palate. Really good stuff. Viva la Mexico!

Big Bottle. Sweet molasas, some carmalized malted candy and roasted grains.. Dark red body with thin head. Sweet caramel and barley grain malt flavor at first. Then sugary sweet mild citrus with some cohoclate and more barley and caramel. Filling brew good night cap.
