Cucapá Barleywine
This English style barleywine has a dark reddish mahogany color. A rich, thick entry leads to a very sweet molasses and chocolate covered citrus flavors. Finishes with a mild, bittering hop fade.

Draught. Marks for Appearance are an average, as beer was sampled in weak artificial light after dark. Fusels, raisins, ethanol, candi sugar ans some mushrooms aroma. Sweet taste, bread, and unidimensional, compared to the nose - more’s the pity. Well bodied, lots of alcohol and -burning, dangerously slick (in going down). Surprising beer for MX. And NOT bad.

Gold foil 750ml. Pours with a tan to caramel colored head over a slightly hazed amber-red body. Aroma of citrus hops, prunes, chocolate, alcohol and sherry. Taste is alcohol, hops, molasses, bitterness, sherry, caramel, cardboard, and slightly smokey with a leather like character. Syrupy mouthfeel and quite warming...

Sampled at The Big Pour beerfest in Scottsdale AZ, after somehow sneaking/stumbling into the VIP area. My first Mexican barley wine! Deep red-orange colour, rich aromas of sherry, vanilla, cedar, and sweet stewed fruits. Sweet toffee malt flavours, with cherry and raisin fruit, vanilla, and a hint of smoke. I was really happy with this one!

Bottle at PilsnerPeter’s Spring Gathering. I think I was told "this is the best beer from Mexico"... and I’d have to agree. It was rather tasty. Phenomenal? No, but solid. Pours a clear still brown with no head. Light isopropyl notes on the nose, but nothing huge. Light caramel follows it up. Medium bodied with nice plum and more caramel and dark fruit. Finishes with a light bitterness. Surprisingly tasty.

courtesy of ibrew2or3. pours dark brown, light tan head. Aroma, caramel and chocolate malts, light hops. Flavors, same with caramel malts, light warming abv, grainy mouthfeel with touch of chocolate and residual dark fruits. Overall mouthfeel adds a nice hoppy finish.

Bottle from City Beer. Pours dark caramel with a sweet nutty aroma and virtually no head. There is a burnt slightly sweet malt flavor with a bitter finish.

Courtesy of jarspag. Thanks Jared. Pours amber with ruby edges and tan head. The aroma is sweet English style barleywine with caramel covered red apples, prunes and dates as well as some yummy molasses. The taste is smooth and sweet with malts, caramel and some muted yet bitter pine hops. It seems to smell like an English style but tastes like the hoppy American style barleywine. Very nice stuff either way in my book.

Draft. Amber beer with a nice off-white head. Lighter grapefruit/earthy malt aroma. Great balanced flavor with malt/caramel, spice, raisin, and citrus bitterness with slight roast. Lingering caramel and citrus. Fuller bodied. Nice. Slight chocolate tones.

750mL bottle at DLD. Poured deep amber with a well-retained cap of tan head. The aroma was warm and very sweet with caramel and souring fruits leading the way. The flavor was sugary and warm with caramel and toffee at the core.. touches of brown sugar graced the edges, along with earthy bitterness and mild oxidation.. solid! Medium-bodied and rather grainy on the palate with low carbonation.. OK feel and flow.

750 ml bottle brought back from Arizona thanks to Eric. Pours a dark brown color with a large beige head. A very sweet malty nose; lots of caramel, rich dry malts. The taste is similarly dominated by a huge malt and caramel presence; somewhat dry and very tasty. Not too much hops, more English than American for sure. A nice sweet flavor with a good mouthfeel.
