COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Bottle @ Papsoe tasting. Hazy reddish amber with an off-white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, dark fruit and alcohol. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Sweet finish. 150313

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of thgr81_us. Pours a cloudy amber with a small off-white head. Oxidized boozy caramel nose - sugary. Rich body, lowish carbonation, nutty, heavy caramel, thick hops - not that aromatic though - with a burning boozy sensation. Alright but certainly not a sophisticated Barley Wine! 150313

22 ounce bottle into snifter; no bottle dating, but I would guess this is at least a year old. Pours slightly cloudy ruby red color with a small fairly dense cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big caramel, raisin, fig, date, molasses, apple, pear, toast, brown bread, toffee, herbal, floral, and herbal earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity and balance of malt sweetness with some light hop notes and alcohol. Taste of big caramel, raisin, date, fig, apple, molasses, toast, toffee, brown bread, floral, and light herbal earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, dark and light fruits, molasses, toast, toffee, floral, and light herbal earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice balance and complexity of big malty/dark fruit flavors; with zero cloying sweetness present after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an excellent barleywine! Very nice balance and complexity of malt and fruity flavors; and very smooth to sip on. Really enjoyed this one.

Bottle shared with northropfrye. I love this because it’s sweet, maybe a bit of oak, beautiful cognac colour, a little heavy with the alcohol but it makes sense here. Very enjoyable.

Reddish brown colour with soft white head. Vibrant aroma of fresh tomatoes, bread, dried fruit, malts, grapes, booze. Taste is sweet, grapes, bread and maybe a bit too boozy, but very flavourful. I enjoyed this barley wine. Under-rated.

Bottle shared at the CBC 1st Birthday, London - big thanks to Kenneth and his Mexican hook-up. Pours clear amber with a sturdy, tan foam head; looks good. Nose is all dusty caramel and toast. Hugely sweet flavor, a bit syrupy, with caramel and ripe berries. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, sticky sweet, more caramel, lightly tangy berries, mild leafy hops. Somewhat one-dimensional. It’s certainly overly sweet, but decent overall. Muy bien!

Last beer rating of 2012? Bottle. Clear amber color, tiny coca cola head. Aroma of toasted caramel. Taste is very sweet caramel and butterscotch. Not bad.

Aroma interesante.

22oz bomber on sale for $1.99. Ruby red-brown-burgundy..translucent and sort of shabby. Thin remnants of an oily head, soda-like fast rising carbonation bubbles. The aroma isn’t so offensive, big dark fruit and sugary alcohol notes. Hmm. Not impressed at all with the taste. Completely unrefined....I’ve got to assume they use malt extract. What a shabby Barleywine...friggin Mexis. Pretty much in your Eastern European malt extract disgusting high ABV beer category. Not even close.
