COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Belgian Triple aged in oak Merlot barrels from a local winery for 4 months. The fruit flavors picked up in the barrel compliment the character of the Belgian yeast.

On tap at the GTMW 2011. Clear golden yellow with a thin white head. Aroma of yeast, bready malt, fruit, oak and mild tannins. Taste of Belgian yeast, candi sugar, tannins, bready malt and mild oak and vanilla.

On tap at GTMW - Pours light amber with a thin white ring of head. Chardonnay present on the nose, dry and smooth, comingling nicely with a Belgian yeast. Taste is yeasty and sweet, with a nice fruitiness. Too carbonated, but the mix of the tripel sweetness and chardonnay really works for me.

Heading in the direction of Cumberland I was eager to try their newest (to me) release. They’ve seldom disappointed and often have great beers for a small low key operation. This one was acceptable - my only objection is that the merlot treatment did not do much for me. Still the combination of hops, Belgian yeast, and sweet aspects meld into a pleasant experience that is smooth for something around 9% ABV.

Growler from shigadeyo. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate complex white grape, herbs and yeasty aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet fruit flavor with a medium sweet & acidic finish of moderate duration with a small alcohol bite. This is a good beer.

2/23/2011:  Cumberland Merlot a Trois...  Aroma:  Sugary red grapes with a touch of Merlot/red wine sourness; fruity.  Appearance:  Bright and the color of clover honey; slow, sparkling carbonation bubbles; fluffy head of pale beige-colored bubbles.  Flavor:  Fruity and sweet with a bit of alcohol burn in the finish (not too much though considering the 9.2% ABV pay load!); the fruit flavors include ripe, fleshy fruits and sweet citrus with a bit of subtle yeastiness in the middle; the red wine barrel infusion and oaky, vanilla characteristics fit really well with the beer.  Palate:  Medium; smooth, well-rounded mouthfeel; slightly thick with a mild amount of carbonation creating a soft and creamy texture; feels great in the mouth!  Overall:  This is a great Trippel and I really like the wine barrel twist and sweetness; it’s quite delicious!

Growler fill ($5.99) from Party Town in Florence, KY.  Rating #1 for this beer.
