joeneugs (289), Livermore, California, USA Mar 9, 2009 Very dark brown with a thick, creamy head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, and licorice. Taste is heavy bodied with a toasted quality with chocolate, licorice, and some minor acidic coffee like bitterness. A very satisfying porter. LarvalChemist (29), Lexington, Kentucky, USA Feb 3, 2009 Poured from the tap.
Dark tan, nitro head with good retention. Moderate lacing on the glass.
Aroma is chocolate with a touch of hops.
Taste is dominated by coffee and chocolate. A hint of burnt or roasted flavor to the beer. Finally a short but clean finish. laguerita (111), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 10, 2008 love the nitro head, but just like a guiness it’s disappointingly thin once you gt through that. otherwise had great roasty flavor to it. NobleSquirrel (1100), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 8, 2008 A very robust and tasty porter at the brewpub. Nitro gives it the characteristic nitro smoothness and head. tasty is roasty and full flavored. Plenty of hops to back it up. Very nice. esjaygee (1467), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA May 25, 2008 On tap at Cumberland brew pub. Brown with thin tan head. Aroma of caramel, honey and roasted malts. Taste of sweet malts, honey, caramel and light chocolate. Smoot with a sweet finish. Not a bad effort. 502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Mar 15, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. Nice and darkly rich coloring but not so great of a head (small and settling) - this brewpub tends to pour beers intentionally without heads though. Smells of roasted malts, molasses, raisins, and a hint of hops. Smooth on the palate with a heavy body but still a somewhat light feel. The flavor was by far the best quality, it really blew me away. It has by far the most hoppy flavor of any porter I have had, and the hops work really well with the typical porter flavors (which I wouldn’t have expected). Great and unique balance. Overall: best cumberland brew in my opinion. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Nov 5, 2007 Nitro at the brewpub. Poured an attractive cloudy dark brown color. Head was light tan and left some good lace behind. Aroma was of subdued chocolate and light roasted malt. Smooth and slightly sweet on the tongue with chocolate and roasted nut flavors. Almost chewy. Good stuff. Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Jul 24, 2007 RBSG 2007 Grand Tasting. Thanks to wheninhell for sending this north with us to the Grand Tasting! Hazy brown with no head. This beer is still - too bad a growler of a nitro beer doesn’t really work. Nutty, mild nose with a nutty chocolate and coffee flavor to back it up. Some pine noticed in the finish. I’d love to try this fresh!
