Head was light tan and left some lace behind. Smelled only of light brown sugar. Dry on the tongue with a distinct coffee flavor and mild to moderate roasty bitterness. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 10, 2005 On tap at the brewpub. Brown in color with excellent lacing. Heavy content of chocholate malt. Subtle nuttiness from toasted malt. Nice mouth feel. Has a good sweet and bitter balance. Aroma smells like fermenting chocolate. NachlamSie (1659), Tennessee, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 4, 2007 Draught during my Dark Lord excursion. This beer is brown. The aroma is almondy and toasty. Mouthfeel is very average for the style. There is a sharp tartness that is similar to nut shells. This is nutty and toasty all around and not that sweet for a brown. Decent, but not very exciting. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | May 26, 2005 Dark brown with tan head and good retention. Biscuit, roasted malt, nuts, and toffee flavours all over the place. Excellent use of hops and speciality grains to achieve balanced mouthfeel. Wish I had time for another. cb (809), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 15, 2008 On tap at brewpub. Poured dark brown, nearly black, with a very minimal head (I blame the bartender for this). The aroma is dominated by hops and roasted malt. Creamy and smooth on the palate; soft with light carbonation. The flavor is dominated by roasted malt, nuts, and chocolate, with a pleasant and balancing hop bitterness. Overall: this may take Nitro porter’s spot as my new favorite Cumberland Brew.
