A Gem. Luscious mouth feel. A symphony of malt flavours, delicate grassiness. Makes me wonder how great it would be BC & unfiltered.

Bottle, The Beer Emporium, Sandbach. Poured a fluffy head that soon died to minimal lacing. Aromas of malt with alcohol in the background. Easy feel in the mouth, bit thin. Tasted of fruity dark malts, prunes with a hint of chocolate. Enjoyed and would have another.

Gift from SJ. I like the label. The first thing I noticed was a pleasant sweet malt aroma with hitns of hop and fruit. The taste was rather sweet, with hints of caramel malt. It was a decent easy drinking beer, with no great characteristics other than it was pleasant.

Red tinged brown with a robust fruity nose and a hint of apple. Boozy up front with a rich malt finish. Very easy to drink.

Bottle at Craigs. Pours a light brown- orange colour with no head. Strawberry jam, caramel and some sweetness on the nose. A little thin with some caramel and candy sugar flavours. A little dry, not amazing.

Bottle courtesy of Benjii at cgarvieuk’s tasting. Pour is clear copper with no head. Treacle, yeasty, strawberry jam nose. Very sweet. Taste is also sweet, with caramel & a thin sweet finish. Not bad, more Belgian than German in style.

15 June 2011, bottle at my last cgarvieuk tasting! light brown, clear, really looks thin. nose is sweet caramel. nothing appealing. thin/med body, slightly syrupy. actually decent. sugary, rich malty, grainy. alcohol is strong but smooth. this is more of a smooth belgian ale, not a doppelbock.

Keg at the Rake’s ’Cumbrian Beer Festival’. Sienna brown pour with a white head. Caramel, toffee, coconut and butterscotch aromas. Burnt caramel, toffee apple, toffee and butterscotch flavours. Very warming. Quite vinous. Long alcohol linger. Sweet, vinous finish.

Small bottle from Utobeer, Borough Market, London. Pours a foggy orangey brown, topped by a layer of tiny beige bubbles. Nice aroma. Cake and biscuits, with a refined sweetness. Also some tinned fruits, and a scent of malt drops and caramel. Sweet-accented, yet a clean and fresh malt flavor. Bready and tin-can-fruity. Minimal bitterness. Alcohol is very well hidden. Light-bodied. Kind of diluted mouthfeel, actually. Fruity endnotes. Drinks good and smells good, but lacks the depth and complexity of fine Doppelbock.
