Bottle from Tarantella, Ambleside. Not so much gold as an extremely pale yellow. Small head that disappeared quite quickly. Very mild aroma of hints of citric fruits. Tastes mildly bitter with a relatively short finish. Some grapefruit and lemon with bittersweet hops. Refreshing and it complemented my meal well enough but I’m not sure it would have had enough about it to stand out when being drunk on its own. Okay. Probably a great session ale.

On cask at The Stagg’s Beer Festival, 2011. Pours a blonde colour with a thick white head. Aroma is quite biscuity with lots of oats, some caramel and a little apple. Big upfront oat flavour also with a little grass, yeast and barley. Moderate carbonation, light CO2 prickle and a foamy mouth-feel.

Cloudy straw colour, citrusy aroma. Lemony taste, fresh and fruity. My favourite Gold Beer by a long way, Badger Golden Glory has a similar feel ending with a more bitter taste,. Hard to get hold of outside Cumbria, but best drunk in its pub of origin the Kirkstile inn in Loweswater.

Weird beer. It’s got a lime green colour, very light, refreshing, but also has a lime taste, which is just a bit weird, even in a golden summer ale.

UPDATED: OCT 14, 2011 500ml bottle (ChrisO’s post-GBBF2011 Tuesday)
Slightly mashy grain aroma. I lie - it’s massively mashy. It’s like what I pulled out from the middle of the pile of malting barley in Aizpute. Quite weetabixy taste. Finish is even more grains. Don’t see the hops in this one, but I like grains, so I’m not complaining.
Rerate, 5 days later - bottle must have been moved too much, this was hazy, and messy, and dirty. Sticking with the prior rating.
