330ml Bottle - Very dark brown, almost black in colour. Coffee, roasted malt, dried fruit and plain chocolate in the aroma. Roasted, chocolatey and malty taste with notes of coffee, liquorice and roasted malt standing out. Not bad at all.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
330ml Bottle from The Bishop Langley, Durham, £3.50.
Very dark brown, near black beer with a small, bubbly, light tan coloured head. The aroma is fairly enticing with creamy caramel tones and dark, roasty malts prominent. There are pleasant, sweetish, dairy milk, chocolate and, interestingly, amaretto biscuit notes to the taste, but there are also less enjoyable sharp, metallic flavours in there as well as a fizz on the palate that reduces drinkability. Oaky, whisky flavours come into play later. There’s plenty to like about this beer but also plenty that’s more than a little jarring. I expected better. Maybe it would have been better not as heavily refrigerated as it was.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled. Pours a very dark brown/black with a small light brown head that soon disappeared. Chocolate, coffee, and a touch of smoke on the nose. Smooth and dry in the mouth, with a slightly smoky flavour balanced by some tartness. Good, but would like a touch more body.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Negra, escasa espuma beige. Aroma a café tostado. En boca es ligera, pero de sabor muy rico, realmente tostada, con notas de chocolate y café. Superbebible es una porter estupenda.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. 4.4 per cent rather than 5. Black with a small head. First flavour was chocolate followed by a gentle bitterness. Well rounded and easy to drink. Not a memorable one but still worth trying.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle from Bottle Bank in Falmouth - my bottle was 4.4% rather than the 5% noted above. Very dark but looks a little dull once the head has disappated, which happens quite quickly. Medium body. Aroma and initial taste has chocolate and biscuit, which reminds me of those chocolate Bourbon biscuits which still frequent our family biscuit tin. Some fruit content which seems to me to be closest to apple, and then a fading weak coffee finish. Doesn’t quite hit the spot for me.

Bue à la pression. Plutot effervescente, remonte jusqu'au marais. Pointe acide et café léger sur la finale. Plutot aqueuse en général.
