Driven by wanderlust and a desire for discovery, the Curious Traveler™ set out to explore the globe. Always fearlessly inquisitive, he relished opportunities to befriend other travelers and to experience cultures he had only previously imagined. He sampled their wares, their foods and most importantly their libations. Some were good. Some not so good. Others were downright dangerous. Many years into his travels, his pace slowed on a particularly sweltering day. He sought refuge in a small pub to escape the oppressive heat. Before he could even finish wiping his brow, the bartender handed him a glistening glass of ale. The Traveler took a liking to the invigorating lemon shandy concoction. “Quite a refresher!” he said gratefully. The Traveler has never stopped exploring – in fact, he’s on the road this very day. Somewhere. Only one thing has changed: he now makes sure he orders a shandy everywhere he goes.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, MN. Pours a hazy golden amber colored brew with a thick off-white head that has some excellent retention and thick lacing. Aroma of lemon Sourheads, a hint of golden grain malt and a touch of white bread. Taste is medium bodied, soft carbonation with flavors of white bread dough, lemon extract and a hint of tart mango. Finish is semi-dry with a white bread and mild lemon after taste. A touch more body than your typical German Radler, especially with the extra malt presence.

Not bad IF you're looking for a lemon beer. Has a good lemon-filled donut flavor. Not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 1/2016. Pours hazy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lemonade, lemon peel, light pepper, wheat, cracker, light honey, light herbal/grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of lemon juice/peel, pale malt, and light earthy hop/yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big lemonade, lemon peel, light pepper, wheat, cracker, light honey, light herbal/grass, and yeast earthiness. Light lemon tartness and earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemonade, lemon peel, wheat, cracker, light honey, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and balance of lemon juice/peel, pale malt, and light earthy hop/yeast ester flavors; with a great malt/tartness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.4%. Overall this is a damn nice shandy style. All around great robustness and balance of lemon juice/peel, pale malt, and light earthy hop/yeast ester flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Can at Igby’s, part of a $3 seasonal blowout. Fine by me. Pours a hazy dull gold with a small white head. The lemon here is more sweet than tart, with tons of wheat, sugary cereal, and some tea and earthiness. Light-bodied, with low carbonatoin and a sweet, muddled mouthfeel. Everything about it is bland and dull, but there’s nothing offensive here.

It is not gross, but it is not special. It is very mild. It tastes like Fentiman’s non-alcoholic shandy. The lemon flavor is a bit too candy-like and pronounced. Don’t go out of your way to get it.

Great taste! Lemon is a tad overpowering but still good. Color is light and smells great.

12-oz. bottle. The noses is straight-up tart lemon juice with tons of lactic acid and a heavy, artificial sugar aroma. Semi-occluded lemon color (shocking) with a pure white creamy head. Blech! The taste is sickeningly sweet. There’s so much sugar that the lemon flavor is barely tart. Astringent wheat and a touch of vanilla is detectable in the background. Extremely light body. This is not enjoyable at all.

On tap at The Hamilton. Golden body with large head. Nose of lemon and fruits. Taste very bitter with lemon and some sweet. Over carbonared. Okay.

12 oz. Bottle. Pale cloudy yellow color, thin fizzy head. Aroma is wheat and sugary lemonade.

The body of this is slightly fuller then it’s older German brothers. A bit more malt then I would have guessed. Still it’s mostly lemonade and wheat. Drinkable if you really want a Radler.

Pours a cloudy honey color. Nice thick white head. Head doesn’t last long. Barely any lacing. Normally I rate wheat beers high for appearance, but this one doesn’t seem to deserve it.

Aroma is of lemon zest. Yeah, okay, lime too, but not as much. It’s a little wheat bread too. It smells very very refreshing.

Taste is very good. It’s lemony, but sweet. Not like lemonade. But it’s light. It could stand to be a little more lemony, at the risk of being too much like lemonade. Man, put a lemon wedge with this, and it would be incredible.

Mouthfeel is amazing. Very tasty. So easy drinking. Such a clean finish. It’s perfect for anything on a hot day. No alcohol taste at all.

Overall, not a huge shandy fan, but I might have to rethink that. This is surprisingly good. And refreshing. And delicious. It seems that shandys are never quite right, but this one is not too much of anything. Not too sweet or bitter, not too heavy, not too, well you get the idea.

Lemon shandy, but such a strong essence, I couldn’t dismiss the thought of "gumdrops" from my mind; like an old-time lemon candy. (at 2015 Summer Beer Dabbler, St. Paul, MN)
