Cusqueña is a super-premium lager from Cuzco, the seat of the Inca empire. Brewed since 1911, it uses only the finest natural ingredients, including pure mountain water from a source at 18,000 feet in the Peruvian Andes.

Bottled - A greeny gold coloured lager with a white head. The aroma is thin and crispish with a typical lager bite. The taste has some acceptable bitterness but little malt backbone. A dull mass produced lager.

Not distasteful at all, just another run of the mill foreign imort. Wouldn’t knock it back.

UPDATED: MAR 1, 2009 I had this at a Peruvian restaurant in Panama. Again, they brought it uncapped, and given my previous experience I can’t be quite sure that it was not a Panama beer, because Latin American crap lagers are pretty similar. But this one was subtly different, so I think that I am rating the real deal. It was uninspiring, and towards the end, as it warmed there was a very off putting, copper taste. I like these better in Peru. Actually, I’m in Peru again...and I don’t really like them that much...the rating was spot on. *****2009 Update. I’ve had this beer twice in the last two weeks in Panama. It’s better outside of Peru, perhaps, or perhaps they’ve done some improvements. It isn’t a pale lager, it’s more like a Munich lager with a more pronounced malt flavor. It’s complex and even a bit warm maintains good flavor. Therefore, it needs to be rated above 2. Perhaps there are some quality control/freshness issue in Peru, where few beverages (especially in rural areas) are refrigerated.

a refreshing NO frills lager, not very high in quality, but this will do the job on a hot day...under average lager for no real head, smell, or definate taste, and its alittle to expensive..w/ tax $8...so avoid, there are better SA+ caribbean lagers out there.

UPDATED: NOV 1, 2006 Very pale, malty and grassy hop nose with something sulphorous. Malty sweet flavor with a liitle hop. No finish to speak of....drying though. Medium palate overall. Reminds of a slightly better than average macro. It’s a shame cos a s soon as you smell this beer you know its going to be shit.

’La cerveza de Los Incas’ indeed. Somehow I don’t think so. Surprisingly dry pale gold Pils owing much to the German style. Bitterly hoppy (Saaz?), with a hint of honeyish sweetness. Head dissipates swiftly. Mine hurts.

not much here; looks like hard cider or something; simple, but lacking intelligence, a bit chalky, a bit rough... you know the drill... drink a few to quench and then slap hands with your frat brothers. in peru. i guess. i have no idea. i don’t like the idea that is this beer, anyway...

Bottle. Poured a very pale yellow with a big pillow top white head, but settled with time. Some light lacing. Ummm.. well that’s the highlights of this one. If you did not have the bottle in front of you, you would swear it’s an American Budweiser. But I guess that is a point there, it did not have that unidentifiable background flavor like many of the other Pils and Pales here in Peru. It was a good American macro stand-in. Light, dry, and lively carbonation. Enjoyed at an Italian restaurant in Chiclayo with goat meat lasagna.

Bottled. Straw gold, fluffy white head but quickly disappearing, gentle condition. Faint initial grassy hoppiness in the nose soon departs, slightly sweet and grainy in the mouth with a touch of chalkiness, quite oily in the mouth but with a developing rough bitterness in the finish.

Not quite as good as the Cristal, a bit thinner and fizzier or something. It’s an international pale lager with gold foil over the cap. Is that like a bum with a cell phone or a pinto with some 20s? Maybe in between those two.
