3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 ounce bottle
Living under the shadow of Upland is a fine new brewery. Affordable, accessible, and well crafted it is a trifecta that results in a brewery which I suspect will soon be discovered by others. I’ll be doing my part to reach that goal.
Aroma / Appearance - Caramel and bronze, the body shimmers and glows. An ivory dense head settles to about one finger in width. The smell of warm cheesecake with a generous honey and cherry glaze invites further inspection.
Flavor / Palate - Caramel and cherry tart tease the palate for a while. Hershey’s chocolate isn’t as appealing but when the full scotch ale experience hits the back of the throat there is no denying this is well made. Cutters is fast becoming a local favorite after only a few samples of their entire lineup.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle as a gift from the g/f’s trip to indy...pours a deep brownish red color with no head....taste is mildly bready. Not as boozy and scotch as i’d expect. More of a brown ale

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle to taster. Looks good for the style; a mostly transparent amberish brown with light beige lacing. Smells malty with a big caramel backbone. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. A solid example of the style.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Rated on 01-28-2012 at 2012 Brewers of Indiana Guild Winterfest-Indianapolis, IN) The Appearance when poured is a murky body, very little carbonation, one ring of lacing, small tan head, and an amber hue. The Aroma is caramel, malty and roasty. The Taste mimics the Aroma along with some alcohol. The Palate is tingly and this beer is light bodied. Overall, this beer is quaffable, but the taste needs more character for this beer style. It was somewhat on the bland side.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 ounce bottle bought in Indianapolis. This pours dark brown and has only a little beige head. An aroma of rich peaty malts and toffee. A floral character is tasted first and is a surprise. Malts are softer than the aroma. Burnt brown sugar is a prominent flavor. Figs and a hint of spice. Late chocolate is noted. A nice beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle in a thistle. Pours brown with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of sweet toffee and caramel and light chocolate malts plus a little nuts and light hops. Flavor the same with a lot of malts. Average to smooth texture. Not a bad Scotch ale.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours crystal clear brown and couldn’t get much head ou of it. Nose is clean toasted, caramels and light burnt malt character. Flavor is toasted malts, bread, biscuits, caramelly burnt sugary fruitiness like dark plums. Medium body, seems to have a touch of hop flavor and a firm hop bitterness. Clean finish. Hood brew but seems. bit on the clean side and a little on the bitter side but pretty good.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Not a bad Scots ale but one that really doesn’t stand apart or offer anything really noteworthy. Pour is a fairly typical dark reddish brown with light tan head. Malt and spice in the nose and flavor, with nice caramel notes as well. Flavors are good, but need to have more strength. This is very mild, which is my biggest complaint.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle courtesy of x_Rev (Reddit trader), thanks Corey. Pours dark copper, nearly brown with a small off white head that disappears without leaving any lacing. Aroma is nearly nonexistent though what is there is classic Scotch Ale, caramel, light peat, just a hint of fruit and cardboard (I always smell cardboard in Scotch Ales, no idea why). Flavor is caramel malt, a touch of chocolate, some citrus flavors and bitterness, a line of cola like flavor and bready background. The palate is a tad thin here with the usual minimized carbonation. Overall, this isn’t a killer Scotch Ale, but there are a ton that are worse. It’s hard to make a really good Scotch Ale and this is above average but not great. Still does the job though.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Beer tasting. Sweet, balanced, not to boozy for 8% would recommend a 6 pack.
