Growler from the brewery. Pours brown with ruby highlights. The thin ivory head quickly disapates. Sour candy aroma. Raisin, fig, plum, and malt notes with a hint of vinegar. Very nice sour.

Dusty, caramel, fruit scent.

The right amount of sour for a non sour drinker. Sweet reminds of sour apple with a sweetness. Nice fading head. No Aroma. A bit thin on tongue. Sample from brewery.

Taster at Upland Sourfest. Hazy brown / red color. Thin bubbly off-white head. Couple loose bits of lace. Some dark fruit, light caramel. Medium plus body. Smooth, soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. A little thin for the style. Moderate sour taste. Moderate sweet. Dry finish. OK, but thin sour brown, with an odd lightly metallic twang to it.

Draft to taster. Looks good; a hazy amberish brown with light beige lacing. Smells solid; sweet, sour, and malty. Tastes like it smells, but far less robust. Average on the palate. Started better than it finished.

tap at Ft Wayne Oktobeerfest 2013 - Pours dark amber-brown with no head. It has a sour aroma with a little caramel. Sweet toasted caramel malt is complemented by obvious but not especially strong sour notes. There’s a decent balance between the two, though there’s something underwhelming about the whole thing.

Draft. Lactic cherry and toffee malt aroma. Chestnut brown with minimal head. Sweet-tart cherry and malt flavor. Nicely balanced. Very good.

I wanted to try Sun King’s 100% Brett but as that had just kicked this made a fine backup plan. It is not the best sour brown but the fact that Cutters is willing to branch out makes me happy. Rather than rest on their laurels they are willing to take risks and try something different.
Aroma / Appearance - The blackish red base is on the dark side for a sour brown. A wispy cocoa head shimmers. The smell of tart bing cherries make me think this tap was fresh when I sampled it. The sweet coffee and burnt pie crust add more depth.
Flavor / Palate - A dry oaky impression serves as the backdrop for a moderate body. Black cherries, blackened crust, and this smokiness which is too strong for me combine the good and bad. As it warms chocolate opens up. This is a great way for the Cutters crew to branch out even if it could still be tweaked.
