Oakes (10184) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 18, 2009
Opaque light amber with a fizzy-looking head. Tart, earthy, appley aroma with some floral accents. Very tart lambic taste, but with a kiss of malt sweetness, lots of minerals and perhaps some hop bitterness at the back. This ends up clashing with the sourness on the palate. This hybrid has some appeal because of the overt lambic character, but the ale detracts. The combination really doesn’t work much at all. Most of the pleasure derives from the lambic, so really just give me the Girardin straight up and cut out the middle man.

According to the bottle, this one was brewed in April of 08. Pours a little dissapointing, the liquid looks good but the head disappeared before I could move into my living room. Smell however is much better, I get some lemon, tarty funk. Sour territory. Taste is vinegary funk over lemon, golden apple, very light tartness that gets bigger at the end. Very nice. Mouth is a little issue, this is a medium body drink, but I feel the carbonation needs to be a little higher. Not terrible by any means, just some room for improvement or maybe asking to be aged. This is a good, solid beer that has some room for improvement. I would like to buy one to age a bit longer. Cheers!

Light amber, zero head. Sour oak aromas ride a lemony funked undercurrent. Similar flavors with sour lemon and wood balancing on hints of funk and barnyard. Light bodied and thin with very faint carbonation. My guess is bad bottle here. I’ll re-rate at some other point in life…

Golden amber body with a modest off-white head. Sourish nose with a speculoos background. Flavour is smooth dry and woody with a light orange and citric touch. Very much like lambic.

A very sour and bitter beer with some flowery notes and some sweetness. Amber in color with a white head.

Koelschtrinker (7060) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - JUN 19, 2011
Saurer, sehr frischer Geruch. Test vom 11.3.2007, Gebinde: Fass Noten: 8,9,9,11,-,9 - 9,21

Trevlig doft av ek och äpple. Smaken ganska len - nästan vattnig. Ingen syrlighet eller eftersmak. Åt Timmermannshållet.

Sampled from a 750 ml green bottle this beer poured a hazy bright yellow color with a small white head. The aroma was tart and fruity and reminded me of sweettart candies. The flavor was very tart, bitter and dry with Sweettart candies dominating. The finish was long and a bit vinegary. Eh.
