Enjoyed from a 750ml bottle in a stemless wine glass. The beer pours a light copper color, with essentially no head. Notes of leather, "sweaty horse blanket," and the countryside during Spring come through in the aroma. To call it "appetizing" would be the equivalent of calling Luther "vaguely significant." The palate shows a bit of spritz up front, before a moderate sourness, more of the aforesaid Brettanomyces characteristics, light fruit notes, a slight bitterness, and a touch of lemon come through. The palate is bone dry and mouthfeel is just right. Mouthfeel is perhaps just slightly filled out by a bit of residual Pediococcus character, but it is by no means ropy. The finish is dry, lightly tart, and lightly leathery. Overall, absolutely wonderful; seemingly the earthly form of what "cuvee" should mean.

On tap at Moeder Lambic, Place Fontainas on 28th November 2015. Hazy copper with diminishing off white foam and scant lacing. Sour lemony and gingery aroma. Richly sour in-mouth without being overly sharp. A grassy touch. Sour, prickly finish. For a drinker not normally keen on sours, I rather enjoyed this one. Thanks Svesse for the recommendation!

Bottle @ home, in the dining room, I do a lot more drinking than dining in here.
Pours a deep golden color with a small but well retained head and a nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma is sour cherries, and less so lemon. It’s earthy and funky, at times it sort of smells like wet wood. It’s certainly got some leaf rot happening and some farmyard-esque characteristics. Through all the funk the bright fruit remains the central character though.

The flavor is pleasantly sour... I’d say at about a medium to high sourness level as far as the range is concerned... defiantly within the sweet spot for a brother like me. Flavors of apricot, sour cherry, & under-ripe strawberry are pretty pronounced here, the lemony character is lingering behind but makes for a nice addition. It’s certainly got a woody character to it, but by no means is that element overbearing. The bitterness is very mild but does linger a touch in the finish & the beer is pretty darn dry.

The palate is lively but the beer drinks rather easily.

Superb, an absolute classic.

What I like about De Ranke is that they have a very recognisable house style - their beers are always unique and funky, very Belgian, but not afraid to experiment. Colour: cloudy dark orange. Aroma: bretty, with a sweet fruit/stewed apple undercurrent. Taste: dry, really sour with a hint of maple seed; grapefruit finish with some oak underneath. Overall: great.

Bottled. Pours hazy golden with an average off-white head. Aroma of funk, barnyard, lemon and yasty notes. Slightlly sweet flavor that ends up dry and tart. Medium bodied, oily texture and soft carbonation. An excellent Sour. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Imbottigliata il 21 Novembre 2014, 75 cl. Aperta l'8 Novembre 2015.

Bottle @ La Palma Sour Fest 2015. I can’t believe I haven’t rated this. Thanks for sharing, Jeff. A little on the muddy side, but oh well. Really great funky, zesty, and perhaps even a touch spicy. Plenty of lemon and apple cider tang. Sort of a musty, slightly earthy funk, too. Nice acidity and sourness to the flavor. Definitely on the dry side. Just a touch of black pepper, chalk, and sweet malt. A classic.
