Handpump at the Welsh Beer and Cider Festival. The first beer of the day with a firm head. Fine background of roasted malt, nice smoky/burned flavour. Good bitterness, too. On top of this a clear plum flavour which blends in wery well with the rest. Great!

Bottle conditioned. Near opaque dark brown with slim tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, coffee and smoke. Quite a smokey taste, with chocolate, dark fruit and a sourish finish. Smooth and medium bodied. I like it.

500ml bottle @ Cardinal. Dark red/brown body with a small beige head. Aroma is sweet fruity, roasted malt, prunes and raisin. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, slightly roasted, dry fruit and a hint of coffee. Impressive at this low abv, like it a lot.

500 ml brown bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 4.8%. British porters often have an aroma and flavour reminiscent of plums, but this one is actually made with real plums. Dark brown colour, moderate tan head. Pleasant aroma of roasted malts, plums/prunes, bakery and mild coffee, hints of smoke. Rounded, smooth and mellow flavour with a very subdued bitterness, notes of gently roasted malts, just a hint of plums. Nice.

500 ml bottle. Ruby red colour. Crystal clear. Medium beige mixed lace head. Rich plummy münchener malt aroma. Smooth texture. Nutty maltiness with a hint of roasted flavours. Gentle bitterness that lingers towards the finish. Very smooth and drinkable. Reminds me of a Norwegian Christmas beer.

Bottle. Black with some red and a small head. Aromas are earthy with soft coffee, winter fruit and chocolate. Mellow blackberry. Flavours are sweet cola with Vimto fruitiness. Chocolate with earthy roast malts. Has a good sparkle. Good stuff.

Bottled. A very dark coloured beer which has a short-lived tan coloured head. The aroma is heavy on the fruits and the roasted malt. The taste is more light. The fruit and the malts come through but are more subtle. The plums certainly don’t dominate but instead nicely compliment the porter qualities.

bottle, Tesco Pont-y-pŵl. Deep dark brown, nearly black colour with a creamy beige head. Malty, hints of caramel, chocolate and toffee as well as very shy but pleasant plum flavours. A delicious porter, ideal to accompany my Scotch egg and Wiltshire ham.
