Sample at CBC ’14. Opaque black liquid with small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, smoke, wood, chocolate and licorice. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with notes of vanilla, chocolate and wood. Full bodied with low carbonation. Great beer.

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014. Not to much of head on this but what’s there is sidesticking and deep beige. Smells like a lovely barreled imp Stout with lots and lots of not to smoked whisky. Somewhat salty, lots of really old leather and subtle smoky woody hints in the back. This is one lovely aroma. Lots of flavor also. It’s not directly sweet but it has some sweet almost beefy elements that I really like. Surprisingly light oily in the mouth and it’s prickling on the tongue. Hard to notice the alcohol before into the aftertaste where where a lovely whisky bouquet rises through the nose. 03.05.2014

Bottle... Pours lightly-hazed and brown with glimmers of mahogany and a brief, small, off-white head. The bouquet is a swirl of caramel, dried plum, toastiness, red apple and alcohol – barleywine to be more specific. Full-bodied and silky with lazy carbonation. The flavor is bittersweet, warming and roasty, offering boatloads of caramel and whiskey, but it’s not the least bit “hot” or boozy. Mundane, minerally finish.

Tap at CBC 2014. Beer in the glass deep black, small head. Heavy malty and dry aroma. Starts intense malty, fine spicy, notes of strong coffee. Finish earthy-malty, more dry. Good!

Smakprov på CBC 2014. Smak och doft av choklad, kaffe, fikon, russin, trä, tobak, vanilj och laktris. Krämig, len, mjuk. Välbalanserad och bra syrlighet. Riktigt gott.

Growler thanks to tectactoe for sharing. Opaque dark brown with a some bubbly head that fades to nearly nothing. Aromas are bourbon soaked cherries, cocoa, molasses, and whiskey. Tastes very smooth. Lots of sugary molasses, toffee, cherries, raisins, and cocoa. Woody in the finish and also kinda spicy sorta. Some decent carb too for a 10 month old growler. Very tasty.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, molasses, caramel, whiskey, with a hint of coconut. It pours a dark brown with a hint orange highlights and a small beige head that quickly fades to a thin ring. The flavor starts with chocolate, molasses, and caramel. The finish has some raisin, roast, whiskey, and a hint of vanilla. It’s medium bodied with mild carbonation.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2014 Growler: Deep, dark brown, only translucent at the edges with a surprisingly amount of khaki foam for a beer that’s been in a growler for 10+ months. Aroma is largely sweet with tons of buttery toffee, caramel candies, butterscotch, faint cacao, sweet raisins & prunes, mild woody notes, a hint of smooth whiskey & some lighter brown sugar & molasses sweetness. Complex, very nice. Almost like a barrel aged barley wine. Taste is similar, but more wood is present. Woody whiskey, sweet caramel, toffee crunch, paint prunes, a touch of anise, a little raisin, & some tannic notes in the finish with noticeable whiskey lingering. More carbonated than expected, a touch prickly. A powerful beer that’s held up pretty well.

A dark brown beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of brettanomyces, whiskey, and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of smooth dar chocolate, and roasted malt on a subdued background of whiskey and vanilla, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.
