3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 hopscotch (7285) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - AUG 27, 2003
Beautiful, sparkling clear, mahogany lager. Large, frothy, off-white head. Spider web lacing.
The nose is of Russian black bread and clover honey. Hint of cocoa.
Nice, bold flavor. Roasted nuts, cocoa, vanilla. Well-bittered. Good balance. Earthy, damp straw flavor in there too.
Medium-bodied with an oily mouthfeel and lively carbonation.
Lengthy, bitter, astringent, dry finish.
Underrated... much like the 1988 and 1993 WVU Mountaineers football teams. Both had undefeated regular seasons; neither was listed in the Top 25 preseason poll. Just thought you'd like to know.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 imdownthepub (7131) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - AUG 17, 2004
Bottled, pasteurised. Dark brown / red with thinnish white head. Deep malty, chocolate, coffee flavour with hints of caramel or a slight burning. Some fruitiness apparent, I quite enjoyed this one.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Tmoney99 (6892) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JUL 30, 2006
Bottle. Poured dark brown with a medium brown head that lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted malt aroma. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. Better than my expectation.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 DocLock (5776) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 16, 2004
Pours dark straw/amber. Aroma of malt, slight toffee, slight brown sugar. Tastes malty, with some toffee, cognac, and earthy qualities. Light on mouthfeel, and as it warmed it didn’t improve much.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Cornfield (5239) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - APR 1, 2005
UPDATED: SEP 26, 2006 The following was a rating for DAB Traditional: This oddly obscure "An Ale" is a puzzlement. It comes across more like an American dark lager than anything else, brown with a roasty nose, lightly sweet malt tastes. Fairly light bodied with a mildly bitter finish, I’m not sure what I just drank.

Earlier Rating: 3/28/2005 Total Score: 2.7 Looks real nice, but it’s a fairly watered down dunkel. The clear brown coloring promises some good, solid maltiness, but it’s very light on the nose. Likewise with the taste - a little caramel malt, a hint of smoke, a bit of a spritzy feel in the throat. Not bad, but not real good.
The above combo rating is a result of having DAB Traditional combined with this dunkel.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ernest (5113) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - FEB 28, 2004
Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium brown. Aroma is lightly malty (caramel, nuts, grain), lightly hoppy (flowers). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately bitter, husky. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, slightly metallic. Grainy aftertaste, meek aroma, not much to recommend here.
