Low noble hop aroma, either Saaz, Hallertauer, Spalt, or Tettnanger. Moderate malt and slight sulfur. Light gold in color very clear. Balance is key to the malt hop balance Hard carbonate water helps bitterness, nothing dominates slight mineral from water. Gordon Biersch makes a good example of this

UPDATED: MAY 14, 2008 Not sure if this is the right brew, as my 12 ounce bottle had a different label and did not call itself any particular style. Still, it did not seem much like a pilsner, so I put it under this heading. This pours with a big, foamy head . The aroma is a bit nasty, but rich, floral hops are present. Malts are noticable, along with hints of molasses and honey. The finish is mellow and hoppy. Not bad at all.

Quite a sweet malty aroma and cracker like from the pils malt. Light gold color with a loose head providing excellent lacing. Sweet malts dominate the flavor but are well balanced with soft hop notes. Sweetness lingers rather then any bitterness. Medium body and carbonation, somewhat creamy but otherwise very easy drinking.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Clear golden with a solid white head. Sweet, solid maltiness. Medium body, lots of good quality malts - perhaps a little metal also. Vague bitterness. The original Dortmunder? 041009

Quite hoppy for an Export. Also, not much of a malty sweetness. Spicy, though. Well done Export.

Deep gold color; light hop nose; decent body with a good dose of both hops and malts in the flavor;good balance. Finishes initially sweet, but some nice hop bitterness emerges late.

A: The beer pours a slightly cloudy golden straw color with a large white head.
S: Smells of straw and grass with a decent breadiness to it. Some light biscuit notes as well as some toasted bread. There is a definite skunk to it as well as a fair amount of lager yeastiness.
T: Sweet malt with a nice breadiness and biscuity flavor. Some honey notes to it as well as a bit of a floral character. Some grassy hops with a little bit of bitterness on the back end. Certainly sulfur in there, too.
M: Medium in body, but the carbonation is slightly on the low side of medium.
O: Usually I like Dortmunders quite a bit, but this wasn’t a terribly good one.
