Draught at World Craft Beer Tasting in Osaka. Some tang in the nose, not much hopping. Dark honeyish yellow. Sour fruit juice initial; a bit of funk in the mid palate;sort of flattens out in the finish. Thin body; quite refreshing. It’s okay. but I really expected a bit more hop character.

Tap at Barley in Kobe. Hazy pale yellow colour, slightly cloudy with small white head. Aroma is yeasty, very grainy and a little bit of citrus. Taste is very crisp, lots of wheat, but not particularly bitter or hoppy. Slight prickle in the texture and the finish is wheaty with a twist of lemon.

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2011 bottle from Yamaoka. Tangy wheat aroma, lemony, yeast, slightly spicy. No hop nose. Cloudy pale yellow with lace. Round, malty wheat flavor, slightly tangy with citrus, sweet and cereals, very low hops. Refreshing enough, but not so special. Needs more of the hops in the name. Tangy, slightly bitter finish. Not one of their best.

Keg, BeerFest Daisen, 23/09/11 (served with a side order of fat, sticky hop cones full of yellow blossom- nice touch). Milky, translucent orange with scant white lacework. The aroma of the actual hops (jellied orange like my homegrown Fuggles) doesn’t quite translate; faint pine, orange, a little almond, a touch of meatiness. Soapy orange and Battenberg flavour with some bile, OJ, cardamom again. Not bad but misses some malt (and hop) to carry the alcohol presence, which is considerable. Disappointing from Daisen G. Prefer nosing the hops.

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2011 I am assuming this is a hopfen weisse style beer. Very pale. Has a weird hop profile. Not quite grassy and not really fruity, it’s a bit off putting. As mark says above - it’s almost ’tangy’. Not a great drop unfortunately. The 6% alcohol is underutilised here, as it delivers nothing of note and isn’t built on in any conceivable way.
