Bottle at Bruce’s, London. Big thanks to Bruce for bringing this back for his travels in the Far East. Pours cloudy yellow-gold with a fine, white foam head. Sweet doughy malt nose, hints of orange and lemon merengue. Huge sweet flavor, lots of white bread, some raw alcohol, light dry straw, dough. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, some sticky white sugars, doughy white bread, a touch medicinal, hay. Not bad.

maekchu (1093) - Hirakata, JAPAN - FEB 26, 2013
Draught at Qbrick (from tasting notes). Moderate barnyardy aroma, earthy straw, ripe orange & apricot, slight banana, alcohol covers the wheat. No head at all (wheat?). Sweet pear/peach/apricot flavors, and some supporting bitterness. Full-bodied stuff, good, rounded and very smooth mouth feel. Alcohol stands out, very heavy for a wheat. Well balanced, and great palate.

The pour is a hazed golden orange color with a white head. Nose of orange and an overall sweet citrus aroma. Plenty of sweet caramel malt and wheat, a touch of yeast and hops, too. There is a mild metallic note on the palate with some grass and floral hop notes. A little bit of dark fruit, some sweet citrus, and maybe a hint of alcohol.
