Sigmund (1961), Hafrsfjord, Norway Jul 26, 2007 Updated: Dec 1, 2007Rerate, 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. The brewery now say this is a beer of low fermentation, inspired by both English ales and German dunkels, but they still call it an "ale". Oh well .. A dunkel it is, I guess. (But the first trial batch served at Gladmatfestivalen they said was top fermented ...) Amber to copper coloured beer, large off-white head. Nice fruity aroma, also notes of malts and caramel. Soft mouthfeel. Malty flavour with caramel, a slight fruitiness too, very moderate hops.
Original rating: Draught at Gladmatfestivalen 2007, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Dark copper coloured beer, creamy head. Malty aroma with some caramel. Malty and well rounded flavour with a moderate but sufficient bitterness, which becomes very distinct in the finish. thebeertourist (1889), Oslo, Norway Dec 23, 2007 Bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Deep clear amber with a sticky white head. Malty aroma as well as grassy notes. Quite grassy flavours, dry mouthfeel. The emphasis is on hops rather than malts. Medium body. Quite enjoyable, though I disagree with the commercial description, emphasizing maltiness. Ole_R (1294), Oslo, Norway Jan 12, 2008 Updated: Jan 26, 2008500 ml bottle provided by Sigmund, thanks! Thin white head fading to a ring of foam clinging to the glass. Nice reddish copper color. Limited but inviting aroma of candied fruits and light sweet malts. Distinct hopbitter taste supported by caramellish malts and a gentle fruitiness. Medium to light body. Fine bittterness in the ending. An exciting and quaffable Dunkel. tarjei (1300), Bryne, Norway Nov 28, 2007 Updated: Dec 30, 200750 cl bottle. BB 20.06.2008, brewed and bottled at Søgaards Bryghus in Denmark.
