Sigmund (1961), Hafrsfjord, Norway Jul 26, 2007 Updated: Apr 26, 2008Rerate 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger. ABV is now 4.7%. The bitterness is now more subdued in the flavour, and the malts come more in front, including moderate notes of butterscotch - but this is still a very nice and drinkable pilsener. Original rating: On tap at Gladmatfestivalen 2007, Stavanger. ABV is 4.5%. Golden colour, creamy head. Moderate but pleasant Saaz aroma. The flavour has a distinct Saaz bitterness from start to finish. Probably the best (or one of the best) pilsener(s) brewed in Norway so far. larsga (2314), Oslo, Norway Jan 25, 2008 Thin white head does not last. Hazy yellow body. Mealy fruity light malty aroma. Sweetish mild pea and light malt taste with fruity notes. Slightly sweet. Dryish mild pea aftertaste. Unremarkable, but not bad. Big, disappering white head. A nice pilsener with fine hops and malt. Refreshing. yngwie (3602), Kristiansand, Norway Apr 5, 2008 Bottle. Pours a sparkling, clear golden body with a decent white head. There’s some sediments forming very small floaties too. The aroma is on the malty side with a distinct grainy scent, but has a nice hoppyness to balance it. It actually feels more balanced than the aroma. The grainyness is more evident in the flavor, but they have used enough hops to give it a fruity, bitter flavor too. Medium, almost sticky-sweet in the mouth, finishing with fruityness and bitterness. The regular Norwegian pilsner-drinker would probably argue that there shouldn’t be sediments clouding his beer, but if poured carefully that shouldn’t be a problem at all. Anyway, as it sure isn’t a discount beer, I don’t think that should ever be an issue. The brewery says it is a quenching beer, and they are right. One of the best pilsners available in Norway, for sure. (080405) gunnfryd (2743), Kristiansand, Norway May 29, 2008 Bottle. Golden colour with a white head. Aroma is malt, hop, grain. Flavour is malt, hop, grain. medium body. Easy drinkable pilsner.
