COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
California Black Beer is a well-balanced American dark lager that emphasizes its grain. It has a slightly roasted character with a slight sweetness and a hint of chocolate malt. Like the bear, it is called black. But if you look close, it’s really brown.

22 oz bottle I was disappointed with this one. I very seldon give non positive reviews but... In all fairness, this bottle might have been spoiled. Pours out an inviting dark black brown with a good head. Aromas of malts coffee cocoa and roasted grains. Tastes of malts with a funny metallic finish. Simply smells and tastes like a spoiled brew.

22oz bomber. Poured a clear reddish amber with a one-finger beige head that has no retention and no lace. Aroma is malty, brown sugar, rye bread. As it warms some coconut and other characters come forth albeit muted. Taste is malty, sugar, watery, slightly oily, sweet, rye bread. Pretty simple, thin to medium-bodied, bready malt heavy.

Pours a one finger light tan head that vanishes leaving no lace. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Clear amber color. Nose is roasted malts. Favor is some caramel and roasted malts. Clean finish. Their best effort so far. $4.49 for a 22oz bottle from Liquorama Upland, CA.

22oz bottle. Rating #50. Dark reddish/brown color with a dirty white head. Nice roasted malt aroma, a slight sugar sweetness as well, pretty nice. Light toasted flavor up front and a little dark fruit sweetness, a bit thin but not bad at all. Decent stuff. (1280)

From a 22oz bottle, fizzy, oily feel, brown, frothy head. Dale brother doesn’t have the a cool trendy label but they make a decent beer

Pours dark brown with a beige head. A malty, caramel aroma. Tastes similar to how it smells, it’s a little watery, dry finish. Unfortunately nothing really memorable here.

Sampled on 1/22/2010. This American Dark Lager pours a dark ruby amber color from a 22oz bottle. Medium sized beige foamy head. The aroma is caramel, roasted malts and slightly sweet. A medium to lighter bodied American Dark Lager. The malts are cereal and grainy, slightly roasty with some chocolate. The hops are earthy. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Most definite a dark lager. Mouthfeel is perhaps a touch thin. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
