COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Maibock is one if the variations on the bock beers that became popular in Bavaria. It is a relatively high alcohol beer in the world of traditional lagers, but unlike the "liquid bread" of the Lenten bocks this sub-style has a hint if floral hop flavor to it. This particular beer also has a good amount if residual sugar, giving the beer a slightly sweet finish appropriate for late spring. Prost!

In all fairness, this isn’t my favorite style of beer. So I’m probably a bit down on some of its characteristics, and don’t judge it well for the style that it is. That said, bought it at a local liquor store in Upland, CA, the city in which the beer is brewed. 22 oz bottle poured a cloudy straw color. The head was pure white and rather small (3/8 inch) ... quickly dissipating with no visible lacing at all. The aroma was faint and a bit nondescript. Tasting it was interesting. I say that because it has a light sweetness at first, then grows to medium with the aftertaste, and I really don’t prefer such sweetness. But I’ve got to say that there was something there that intrigued me. It was surprisingly not as unsatisfying as I anticipated. To the contrary, as I continued to drink, I felt like I was starting to "get it". A hint of peach? Medium body and creamy on the palate with a very long finish. Would I buy it again? No. Would I drink it if offered? Gladly so.

22oz bottle. Rating #1! Medium golden pour that had a slight haze to it and a nice little off-white head. Nice light sweet caramel malt aroma. Tasty, more sweet caramel with a bit of bitterness in the finish and a bit of a breadiness as well. (1924)
