Subdued aroma gives no hint of the spicey taste to follow. Makes a nice change from the usual ’Anglo’ slanted Pale ale and definitely shows what a Belgian yeast can do.

Poured from a tap and drank from a pint glass. Medium color with a quickly disappearing head that left quite a bit of lacing. Aroma was not overly strong. Tastes like many standard offering pale ales. Nothing worn with it, but nothing stood out as above average.

On tap @ Pomeroy. New Zealand holiday 2011-12. Old notes. The aroma has maltiness, some citrus, ginger. Clear, amber coloured beer with a thin lace. The taste is light malty, citric. Dry and a bit yeasty in the end.

Hazy pale gold with a short white head. Simple aroma of floral peach and banana esters with unwelcoming notes of dish soap and saccharine / rice cake. Medium-light body, sweet with low bitterness. Very dull and stale, other than the faint esters there’s little here that makes it Belgian. No phenols, no malt presence in the nose and the soapy yeast off-flavors curb my enthusiasm. The head is good, the body is gold-brown. It smells hoppy, fruity, hoparomatic, delicious. The taste is hoppy, aromatic, hoparomatic, delicious. Bit bitter, flavourful.

Draft at Beervana. Hazy golden color, scant white edge head. Aroma of slightly funky hay vtaste is bitter and peppery caramel with a bit of cardboard.

Hazy medium amber-londe, fairly light in body with slight corriande coming through. Overal quite subtle but drinkable

I know nothing of the rating system of beer other than what I learned in college, cheap and cheaper. However; I am willing to learn. Please ignore my numbers as I test the water to learn what they really mean. The first thing that caught my attention with this beer was the crisp flowery, spicy, citrus aroma when brought to lip. The hops were there and a bit on the dry side (for my taste) though evenly through the drink as after. Overall crisp and more flower and citrus than spice. Thank you for supporting my first foreay into beer snobbery. Talk about a geek. Sitting alone (David!) Texting beer descriptions at a bar on a Tuesday afternoon.

Good amber colour with a nice collar of white head that clings to the side of the glass leaving satisfying lace. Aromas of mandarin flesh, basement Belgian yeast aroma, buttercups and nasturtiums... yes, nasturtiums. Good body, silky and soft, full mouthfeel. Really is oily and generous. Flavours of cloves, biscuits, golden syrup and mace. Describes more like some sort of dessert than a beer. The finish is enduring and brings flavours of orange zest, red capsicum and other citrus tang. This is a seriously good effort for such an early release by this brewer. I’m keen to see what else he chances his arm at.
