Courtesy of CigarCityBrew. First US based rating of this beer.

Pours dark with brown edges and light brown head. In the aroma I get moderately roasted malts moving to burnt and some ash sprinkled on bread. Yummy aroma really. Nice nearly creamy mouthfeel bringing in roasted to burnt malts with some chocolate building and building into the finish. In closing the burnt malts rise up to a mild level from the finish and into the after taste. Very satisfying.

500 ml bottle, bought in Scarborough. ABV is 4.0%. Pitch black colour, large brown head. Aroma of cocoa and coffee, hints of tar, wood and leather. Creamy mouthfeel. The flavour is dominated by cocoa / chocolate, also notes of coffee, brown bread and burnt caramel, a little fruit too. Pretty good.

DuffMan (5192) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 26, 2009
Bottle, purchased at Meenan’s in Dunedin. Pours a rich looking near-black with a very dense thick tan head that displays excellent retention and generates thick beautiful lace. Very fudgy aroma. Flavours of chocolate liqueur and underlying coffee. Sweet with a mildly bitter finish. Mouthfeel is incredibly silky and perfectly carbonated. Remarkable flavour and structure for a lower ABV beer. I thought this was much better than the majority of ratings I see here!

thewolf (9871) - Kolding, DENMARK - DEC 16, 2007
Bottle, bought @ YNWA, Kolding. Pours almost pitch-black with a small creamy beige head that stays for a long time. Aroma is lots of dark chocolate, some roasted malts and sweetness. Very nice, creamy mouthfeel. Flavour begins roasted, then belnds in super amounts of cocoa, light toffee, all mixing into a great feel of dark chocolate.

This is delicious. Pours black, with ruby highlights, and a big fluffy head the colour of chocolate milk. The nose is dark chocolate and roast malts. The flavours are similar, with a nice coffee note present also, and a long bitter finish. The mouthfeel is slightly thinner than I think it should be and a little over carbonated, but I’m impressed nonetheless.

Bottle. Pours black with a big creamy light brown head. Harmonious roasted malts and chocolate nose. Flavours are sweet, but with a good roast. Chocolate flavours. Quite smooth. Very good.

rauchbier (3394) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - DEC 24, 2007
Bottle, from Netto. Jet Black, excellent lasting fluffy beige head and gentle condition. Pleasant liquorice, burnt coffee, chocolate and buttery notes in the nose, slightly muted in the mouth with a dry tinniness intruding on the chocolate sweetness and coffee bean bitterness, roasted barley and chocolate nesquik in the finish but shorter than I expected from the nose. Pretty good though for only 4% abv.

Roasty smoked and light dry lactic notes. And something that smells like a clean plastic milk carton. Black with a wispy tan bubbly. Dry with dark malt, chocolate and tobacco in the flavor.

A Mes rate: bottle at Chris_O’s Ha Ha Ha Ha Gimme the Cheese Tasting.
Straight forward but good looking black with tan. Good malt, good chocolate. Nice coffee notes giving it a balancing bitterness. Very slight spic too. Good stuff and it held up impressively well next to the Southern Tier Choklat.

Skinnyviking (5956) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - MAR 24, 2008
Bottle. Medium high creamy and brown head. Very dark red almost black body. Roasted malt aroma with choccloate and some sweetness I cannot figure out. Coffee choccolate flavor with a nice hops bitterness. Low carbonation and a long coffee aftertaste rather than choccolate. Impressive taste for such a low alcohol beer.
