Ungstrup (10863), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 13, 2008 Bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is sweet and very roasted combined with notes of bitter chocolate and wood, leading to a dry roasted finish. The body is thin, which is the only drawback.
Retorp (2148), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 19, 2008 Roasty smoked and light dry lactic notes. And something that smells like a clean plastic milk carton. Black with a wispy tan bubbly. Dry with dark malt, chocolate and tobacco in the flavor. Ethereal (724), London, Greater London, England Jul 2, 2008 Bottle at Chris_O’s 19th April 2008 tasting. Dark with a line of tan head. Balanced chocolate & malt aroma, complemented by an equally subtle flavour. A bit thin but a nice change from full-on choccy stouts. Pours dark with brown edges and light brown head. In the aroma I get moderately roasted malts moving to burnt and some ash sprinkled on bread. Yummy aroma really. Nice nearly creamy mouthfeel bringing in roasted to burnt malts with some chocolate building and building into the finish. In closing the burnt malts rise up to a mild level from the finish and into the after taste. Very satisfying. thebeertourist (1699), Oslo, Norway May 25, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a big creamy light brown head. Harmonious roasted malts and chocolate nose. Flavours are sweet, but with a good roast. Chocolate flavours. Quite smooth. Very good.
