030116. This English dark ale is a drop worth hunting down as it is loaded with flavour and carries a long strong finish. I picked up this 500ml bottle at Cool Wine in Hobart a few months back and I am glad that I did. More malty than hoppy or bitter the beer pours a translucent copper colour with a thick head that settles and thins out after a while. There is caramel and some toffee aromas in the nose, with some vanilla hiding in the background. The flavour very much mirrors the aroma , with some spiced fruit thrown into the mix, and the beer while initially thin in the mouths builds to a creamy mouthfeel. At 5.3% ABV it is certainly very drinkable.

Pictures bottle from Keg Liquors; split four ways. Aroma: Rich caramel biscuit and some hazelnut as well; maybe a little in the way of woodsy, earthy hop character. Appearance: Slightly hazy chestnut pour with a ring of bubbly tan head. Flavor: Hazelnut over caramel throughout with a subtle woodsy puff towards the finish, which is mostly dry. Palate: Lighter body, slick texture, soft carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: Didn’t move me much one way or the other; could certainly drink again, but not in a hurry to grab another bottle. Preferred the Morocco ale much more.

Clear dark amber, small offwhite head. Mild malty aroma with estery hints of fruit and apple juice. Similar flavour, slightly boozy.
