2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Aroma of caramel and banana, color is clear dark reddish brown with a head that is minuscule and dissipates quickly. Flavor is a boring, astringent malt. Like a pumpernickel bread, but not as delicious. Kind of lame-o. Bottle from Lucky Liquors, Miami.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Appearance: Pours out a darkened, brownish-red body with a modestly-sized, sudsy, off-white head.
Smell: Toasted dark bread and some dark caramel alongside fruity hints of raisins and dried apricots. Alright, movin’ on!
Taste: A sweet taste of the syrup glazed crusts of dark bread. Hint of nuts. Sadly, there’s a slight lacquery tone, giving the impression it has more than the listed 5.3% ABV. Small dusting of cocoa powder. A carryover of fruitiness from the aroma. Mild hop character and bitterness. Drying finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-low carbonation.
Drinkability: Average but accessible, though one I’ll have to pass. I enjoyed the monkey shenanigans story on the label more than anything else.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
[Pint, J.D.W. Cuthbert Brodrick - Leeds, 07/01/10] Good looking dark ruby red colour in the glass. Nose indistinct with notes of caramel malts. Flavour much better; juicy, fruity malts, caramel, perhaps toffee. Alcohol makes its presence known in a pleasant, warming way. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Medium to full bodied. A good, well rounded beer.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Not bad, pours a translucent prune into the glass, with an initial wispy head that reduces to nothing, leaving sporadic lace. The nose is of roasted hoppy fruit. The flavors are on par with the commercial deScription. There is some roasted malt, dark esters and English bitters around a tannic acid and biscuit flour finish. The mouthfeel is a bit like a hard cider with decent carbonation levels. Palate is light and fruity, but at the same time dry-roasted. Interesting.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Flat carbonation. Carmel and malt aromatics. Too thin and passive. This isn’t something I’d return to.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottled (BB 02/2010)
Deep amber-brown color, decent brown head. Aroma of fruits and caramel. Flavor is nutty-caramelly with some woody, salty hoppyness. Very typical English strong ale.
