lagomswedish (213) - Umeå, SWEDEN - MAR 28, 2009
Bottle from the Systembolaget in Umeå. This is the sort of beer I miss living over here in Sweden - a thoroughly drinkable strong(ish) ale with bags of character. Pours a dark mahogony brown with aromas of rich black berries and a hint of coffee and smoke. Thick and rather flat mouthfeel and medium sweet middle. A smooth and balanced beer.

RichardW (1502) - Carlisle, Cumbria, ENGLAND - MAR 13, 2009
Bottle, Booths, Windermere. Fairly dark brown beer, with a yellowish head. Initail taste is dry and malty, but a chocolatey aroma soon becomes apparent, accompanied by a waft of sherry. The taste becomes more pronounced and the strength more apparent as you progress. Lovely aftertaste, fully flavoured.

Dark reddish brown with a finger of creamy white head. Nice sheet of lacing broken up by lots of perfect circles where a bubble once stood. Aroma is of lightly sweet caramels, molasses. Taste is sweet more caramel, some chocolate and hints of dark fruits.

Quickly descending head, slightly red, dark brown color. Alcohol and malts in aroma. Slightly metallic taste. Roasted malts. Very little hops. Tastes better with cigarettes. Alcohol present in taste and it shouldn’t be. Meh.

(Bottle) Reddish brown colour with a frothy, beige head. Malty nose with toffee, caramel, chocolate, dark fruit and dark bread. Malty taste with notes of caramel, toffee, chocolate, dark fruit, dark bread and a hint of cold coffee. Slightly bittersweet finish with a medium bitterness. Medium body, smooth mouthfeel. Not really daring, but a nice and tasty beer. In short: bittersweet caramel toffee.

50 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden deep amber to brown with a lacing off-white head. Aroma is mild roasted malt towards breadish. Light yeasty and breadish flavoured with a light metallic touch. Lingering breadish and mild fruity finish once the metallic note diminishes.

Bottle: Pours an amber/brown hue with a creamy dense tan head. The aroma has a great malt presence. Smooth sweet dark fruits- maple, plum hints and a subtle cocoa edge. The texture is great, soft carbonation. Feels like a well conditioned cask. Rich malt presence. Cakey, roasty, some bitter dark fruit skins and nutty suggestions. Later flowery British hop bitterness mingles with residual toasted cocoa notes into the finish. Nice malt character, and great texture. I would love to get a pint of this from a cask.
