Bottle. I am with imdownthepub on this beer. Mahogany colour with a cream head. Dark fruits and malt on nose (black cherry) good malty flavours with some chocolate but mostly caramel and nice hop to balance. Not too sweet for a beer of this strength and very nice indeed

Clear ruby colourwith a persistent creme head. Sweet fruity aroma. Huge malt flavour with raisins and some roasty bitterness. This is for a true malthead.

I seem to have liked this beer more than others. The beer had a unique tingle when it hit the tongue. It had that sweet and thick flavor without being viscous. Great jog of having flavor without filling up my stomach.

Location: 500 ml bottle from Gillyís, 4/21/09

Aroma: Nose is mostly dark fruity hops, with the malts, and caramel scents in there as well
Appearance: Reddish brown, dark looking beer
Flavor: Nice sweetness to this one, similar to the nose, except the caramel and malts are slightly stronger and the fruit fades in and mixes with the rest of the flavors
Palate: Medium body, drinks pretty nicely and quickly
Overall Impression: I thought this one was pretty nice, a good flavor, and a smooth drink. A little lighter then I would have guessed from the appearance. Overall though, a very nice beer.

Decent beer. Poured with a tan head that quickly settled down and no lace. Color is a lovely clear medium red amber. Aroma is very malty roast toffee and a hint fruity. Flavor is like aroma. Body is ok and so is carbonation. Finish is like flavor and medium in length. Serviceable beer. If you were in the mood for a straightforward malty ale this could be a session.

Dark red-amber with a long lasting head and thick lace. Solid sweet caramel malt with overtones of sorghum molasses and biscuit. As it moves through the palate a smooth floral hop bittering provides a cleansing balance. At the finish, sweetness re-emerges. An excellent beer.

Pint bottle. The beer pours a rich mahogany brown with a decentlly structured beige head. There are notes of leather, toasted oak, pumpernickel bread, and stewed cherries. Any hint of sweetness is well intigrated with a solid backbone of darker malt and a slightly charry character. A lovely beer for the style.

Dark ruby color, when seen through the light, otherwise, itís a ruddy caramel hue, sitting under a slim ring of cocoa foam. Dark fruit abounds in the nose, rich, sweet, and ebullient, grape and black cherry, with caramel and nuts riding along. Quite nice. "Dark and beautifully smooth," reads the label, below a depiction of the titular ape, and smooth is right. Slides right in the mouth and lolls about the palate. A lush maltiness, with a perfect integration. Just a whisper of hop, very easy on the tongue, and not too sweet, either. Texture and mouthfeel is no challenge, either. For this ale, itís all about the unique malty flavor and the flawless drinkability. At over $5 for a 500ml bottle, I wonít be visiting this too often, but I do recommend it. Not bad in the least.
