Pours dark brown, red hue towards the edges, light khaki head. Fruity chocolate sweetness in the nose, very lightly roasty. Flavor is similar to a Czech tmavy, although not as silky smooth. Has that lightly roasted chocolate note up front on the palate, with a mild finish of caramel and sweeter apple.

[Pint, J.D.W. Cuthbert Brodrick - Leeds, 07/01/10] Good looking dark ruby red colour in the glass. Nose indistinct with notes of caramel malts. Flavour much better; juicy, fruity malts, caramel, perhaps toffee. Alcohol makes its presence known in a pleasant, warming way. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Medium to full bodied. A good, well rounded beer.

Once again, this is a new style to me and I have to say that I really enjoyed this beer. Poured a beautiful dark brown with a thick creamy head. This beer had so much malt and caramel to ot. Very low carbination and lacing was nice also. I did detect some rasin or fig hints to it too. I thought it was a great beer, but a stong ale? hmmmm I don’t think so, maybe I’m wrong.

Wow, strong ale, eh? Not really sure it fits into this style. 16.9 oz bottle that pours out mostly clear brown with slight red hue that gets the color close to amber. It has a thin tan colored head too. The aroma has a couple of malt notes such as sweet malts with a hint of roastiness, biscuit malts and vague dark fruitiness as well. Nice malty flavor that yields snippets of roasted malts, biscuit malts and a hint of caramel malts. About midway a more roasted malt surfaces along with the vague dark fruitiness picked up in the nose. Very tasty brew.
