COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a very dark, rich and mysterious ale brewed to an ancient recipe dating back to Elizabethan times. Full bodied, malty with spicy overtones this complex beer is only brewed occasionally. Enjoy a bottle as the perfect end to a perfect meal.
The recipe for Morocco Ale is believed to date from Elizabethan times. Colonel John Grahme of Levens was a courtier to James II and the name ’Morocco Ale’ may have been associated with the dark Moors who came to the court when Catherine of Breganza married Charles II and brought Tangiers as part of her dowry.
Every May-time until 1877, the unique, dark, spiced Morocco Ale, matured for 21 years, was served at a great feast held in Levens Gardens. The guests were required to stand on one leg and empty in a draught a tall constable glass filled with ’Morocco’ whilst pledging to the ancient house "Luck to Levens whilst t’Kent flows"

A dark nutbrown beer with no head. The aroma is a powerful ginger with some sweetness. The flavor is also totally dominated by the ginger combined with some sweetness. Not my type of beer - I've tried ginger beers better than this one.

(Bottle 50 cl) Courtesy of boboski. Clear, warm, reddish brown with a small, off-white head. Very spicy aroma - almost gingerish or perhaps juniper? Medium body with sweetish, burned caramel and some lightly medicinal cough syrup notes. Dry and herbal finish. Weird but interesting. 110108

Bottled. Really dark ruby colour, close to black. Mediumsized beige head. Aroma is ginger, vegetables and some mild sour fruits. Also some wooden and earthy notes are lurking once the beer has been poured for a while. Flavorur is spices (ginger and clove) along with some vegetables and quite much licorice. Quite much in it, but still it is quite watery to the palate.

Bottled at Loch Ness, Stockholm. Dark ruby, rich firm head. Spicy nose with raspberry and nutmeg. Sweet and solidly malty. Crystalized sugar blends with roasty malt, red cherries and herbal spices. The mouthfeel is fairly clean, and I sense more herbal spices than real bitterness in the finish. Nutmeg seem to dominate this beer which I would enjoy even more it was a a tad less sweet.

Brown color with ruby shades. Malty and caramel aroma, with a quite sharp herbal character (heather, myrth, fresh ginger?). Good body structure, very original flavor, mixing the malt, caramel, demerara sugar, herbs, fresh ginger, pine needles… Quite strong bitterness, based on the caramel/roasted malt.
