2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - NOV 25, 2011
First tasted this in the Bull Inn, Paisley in April 1997. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear russet amber in colour with a thin creamy white head. Slight caramel notes in the brief aroma. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a sweet fruitloaf base with soft caramel notes infused with raisin fruit. dusty hop resins present in the short aftertaste. Finish is smooth and malty with hints of vanilla fudge. A decent session ESB and well recommended.

I didn’t think this was too good. Full bodied malty ale with berries prominent, slight hoppiness to it.

Cask, King’s Head. A brown English bitter. Nutty and sharp, mellows out with drinking and becomes quite rounded. Berries and malt dominate the aroma, which is reasonably rich. A middling beer.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Leighton (4097) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 3, 2011
Cask at the Crosse Keys, JDW. Pours a clear russet with a foamy, off-white head. Aroma holds lightly burnt sugar and toast. Nice flavor, with light sweetness and a prominent toastiness, along with herbal, leafy bitters. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Mild sweet finish, faint caramel, leaves and light wood. Very nice beer.

Cask at The Baron, 21/05/11. On Saturday night it appears to transform into an idiotheque, albeit one with 5 unsampled ales on handpull. Good deep soggy mouthfeel full of carob and raisin maltiness, milk choc, wisps of smoke. Walnut and varnished table aroma with a clean biliousness about it. Attractive dark coppery brew with egg white lace. Slight and sneaking with a malt-packed, slightly chewy Germanic/Scottish-like character. Very nice.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Amber to brown with white head. There is a decent depth of malty body with hints of caramel and biscuit, then a bite of leafy hop giving a bittersweet note. Nice and easy drinking. Quite decent.

Cask, handpump at The Swan & Castle, JDW, Oxford, with Baz, Loz and Jude 30.04.11 Pours dark amber with superb clarity. This is in excellent nick to be fair. There is a little bit of toffee, and a good bitterness at the back of the mouth. Good body, tasty beer. A6 A5 T7 P4 Ov13 3.5

Cask at Wetherspoons, Milton Keynes. Copper with a white head. Caramel malt aroma, eventually revealing something like fried bacon. Indeterminate taste. Oily with some maltiness and a sharp bitter finish. I wasn’t completely happy with this.
