Soft and gentle on the palate. Went down all too easily; a very easy to drink beer.
3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 AlchemistZ (493) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - SEP 6, 2004
An orange/brown color with a pale white head. A very woody, resiny, fresh aroma with lots of earth (could use more malt). Flavor is extraordinary. Hops meld with malt thruoghout the profile. There is a great touch of ale yeast fruit that is almost winey. Bitterness and malt linger in an incredibly long finish. Bitterness hangs on the tongue while the malt and hop flavor clings to the roof creating two distinct sensations for the finish.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Suttree (4454) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - MAR 13, 2005
Very nice copper/red (I actually used the word "lovely" in my notes) with a sturdy, dense head. Jammy, fruity aroma. Very smooth palate. Nicely blended flavors of nuts, wood, and a crisp, slightly tart finish. Enjoyable brew.

An amber beer with a fine beige head. The aroma is sweet combined with some hop sourness. The flavor is sweet matly with notes of nuts and fruit. A very nice brown ale.

Pours deep amber into an English pint. White head quickly recedes to skim surface leaving spot lacing. Dry with sweet caramel upfront and a brisk finish.

Very well done bitter. Full taste of sweet malt and caramel tempered with slight bitterness. Lingering finish of semi-sweet toffee. Excellent for a long session!

Brown colour with a good head, malt and hop aroma, slightly caramel bitter taste.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 TheGrandMaster (2335) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 10, 2007
Pint pulled at JDW The Railway in Putney (London), brown with a creamy white head. A great aroma of juicy malt with plenty off citrus hop. Very smooth at first and then a tingly bitterness that brings out the complex caramal malt and stewed fruit flavours. Very good for me, I wonder why it is not rated more highly? (Definitely shouldn’t be classified as an Old Ale though)
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 ALLOVATE (2109) - Butler, AUSTRALIA - NOV 13, 2004
UPDATED: JUL 8, 2005 I am biased, I guess, but I drink this one quite regularly and find I could easily go another at the end of the night. Pours a slightly hazy amber brown, with a short dense white head that dissipated back to a ring halfway down the pint. Toffee malt an burnt sugar aroma with a little grassy hops. Toffee, caramel, burnt sugars and light fruity esters in the mouth, light bodied (oddly filling in the stomach) and mild in carbonation, with a clean, bitter malty and grassy swallow that had a little length. Session favourite of mine as it goes down a treat in bulk. A right grand Yorkshire beer!!!
