Deep amber in color with a fruity aroma which brings a complex mix of malts and mainly English hops including Fuggles and Northdown. With a hint of barley wine, it is ideal to accompany food.

Bottle: Clear, amber, lacy white head; sweet fruity (some raisins detectable) nose, shy hops underneath; moderate bitter sweet flavour, medium bodied, soft; raisins again in the bitter-sweet finish. Unspectacular, but quite O.K.......

500ml bottle. Light ruby to amber colour with a flat beige head. Looks solid enough with hop and malt aromas with an underlying sweetness. Strong taste, almost whisky like, and you can tatse the alcohol.

Bottle @ pre-GBBF shindig, August 2009. Old bottle, not sure of the age. Hazy amber. Fairly malty with some sweetness. Touch of dry hop presence on the finish. Has held up reasonably well but not especially interesting. More like a fruity premium bitter than a strong ale.

Clean amber with a thin off white head. Slightly floral. Sickly malt. Sweet and chewy and generally not good.

ChainGangGuy (4280) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - NOV 26, 2009
Appearance: Pours a clear, amberesque body with a frothy, cheerfully bubbly, ivory-colored head. Smell: Initial notes of swiftly toasted, sparsely buttered biscuits with a hint of sweet, crisp toffee following close behind. Lastly, the spicy-scented hops and a tinge of fruit reach my aged nostrils. Taste: Toasty biscuit malt tones with lightly sweet touches of toffee and brown sugar. Slight estery fruitiness. Little muttering of buttery diacetyl. Seemingly and assumed English hops with a light spiciness and harmonizing bitterness. Ripon Jewel Ale becomes a tad minerally on the sweetish, soft finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation. Smooth, soft mouthfeel. Drinkability: A very graceful, well-balanced, tasty beverage. I dug it, maybe you will, too.

Old bottle, L195. Murky brown pour. Smell is a little yeasty and sweet. Yes, old beer flavors. No detectable carbonation. Weird beer personality, with hints of barley wine. Good description on the label. Full, yes, Body? I dunnoh. No sediment on the bottom of the bottle. Seems like a mild stronger ale if thats possible. A tiny bit of gaggy in there. Finish.......too old to rate, I’ll have to try this again soon. Ratherm crude linger.
