Hand pulled at the Briar Rose, Birmingham. Looks rubbish: flat, pale. Slight hint of chalk and lemon on a biscuit sweet malt wall. Smooth mouthfeel. A bit dull, but not terrible. OK.

Cask conditioned at The Stanwick Inn, Stanwick, N. Yorks. Gold with white head. Light, smooth, vague spiciness but mostly a straightforward ale. Hints of yeast, but I was searching hard.

Floral malt aroma. White head. Golden coloured hoppy and a little spicy coriander flavoured with a hint of dryness in a bitter and creamy malt finish.

Cask @ The Sir Alexander Graham Bell, Edinburgh. Bready malt aroma. Golden yellow colour with a good head. Spicy biscuit flavour. Not bad but not really a Belgian White. More a good bitter / golden ale.

Cask at the WIllow Walk (JDW), Victoria. Hazy straw with a loose white head; and a lemon aroma; light refreshing citrus flavour with a wheaty body, but lacking the density and intensity of a true Witbier; the finish is toasty, missing any sign of spice.

The Felix, Nuneaton. Pale gold with a level white top. Faint grass and tupperware aroma. Clean lemon and grassy notes, ginger maybe.. Biscuit finish with a rub of orange soapiness. Basic and a bit watery but pleasant. Nothing like a witbier.

Cask at Bankers Draft (JDW) Bedford, in ’Spoons Beer Festival ’11. Amber. Faint sweet aroma, developing into butterscotch. Nettly taste. Yes, that’s it - nettles. Mid bitter finish. Belgian it isn’t. Didn’t like it. Enough said.
