The coconut is an interesting little drupe. It’s origins, still up for debate, range from the Melanesia-India-Australian region to that of South America. A hardy fruit, the coconut has many uses in many of its different forms. From fibers pulled from its husks, to those briny coconut water drinks replacing nostalgia with adult juice boxes, to the aptly named “millionaires salad’ derived from eating the heart of the palm itself–the coconut is an embodiment of the concept of Kalpavriksha. Today we’ll focus on the Copra, the flesh of the coconut. Why? Because 30 lbs. of coconut copra was added to Dangerous Man’s Milk Stout. Yeah, Almond Joy has nothing on us. Toasted coconut copra lounging about. The coconut copra was lightly toasted leaving the milky-white speckled khaki and raw umber. Toasting the coconut helps to dry out the oily flesh and to enhance the coconut aroma we’ve all come to know and expect. Added to fermentor, the coconut copra has been lending the stout its flavor during fermentation. When yeast is added to hop-filled wort, a myriad of strange and fascinating process occur that give you the finished beer. This toasted coconut copra has joined the fray and will bring you a milk stout like no other.

Crowler. Deep brown with minimal head. Chocolate milk, dry roasted almonds, faint toasted coconut and roasted malts. Moderately sweet with a dry roasty finish with the toasted coconut contributing to the flavor a little more than the aroma but still in the background. Medium body with a watery feel.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear dark brown with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a strong dark grain note with roasted malts and a bit of coconut. Flavor is dark grain and roasted make forward with just a hint of coconut.

Approximately 10 oz. pour from a growler during a tasting on 11-21-15. Thanks to falco242. Pours dark brown with a small to moderate amount of light tan head. Nice smell features scents of coconut and coconut husk. Mounds candy bar flavor. Really good. Lively and frothy in the palate. Medium body. Darn good beer overall, although not as stellar as some of the early ratings here suggest. Dangerous Man Peanut Butter Porter this is not.

Keg @ Dangerous Man. Dee brown pour with a thick creamy tan head. Nose full of dark chocolate and rich toasted coconut. Sweet and inviting stuff. Taste is sweet, dat. Coconut-forward. Some charred grain and mellow coffee. Oily, substantial. Nice.

Had this after the Imperial chocolate milk stout, which was an amazing beer. This one was very nice but the coconut was somewhat subdued. Great chocolate, coffee and dark fruit notes

Pour on tap at APN 2013, dark brownish black pour with creamy tan head, aroma brought dark chocolate, roast, coffee, slight hints of a spicy tone, the coconut if you search for it was barely present, but not much difference from the chocolate version. Taste was similar, dark cocoa, roast, coffee, slight earth and dark fruits, slight sweet coconut finishing fairly bitter.
