Commercial Description:
Drinking stout is fun and is no longer only meant for the older generation. That was the message when Royal Stout was introduced to Malaysian market in 1992 to complement the existing range of products. Rich in aroma with a right level of bitterness, its honest to goodness flavour appeals to the older generation who appreciate its rich taste and the younger generation who feels a need for change in keeping with the times.

EBF2008. It’s pitch black with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of licorice, coffee and citrus. The flavour has a light sweetness, notes of roasted malt, a slightly dry and somewhat unbalanced bitterness, caramel, light licorice and butter. IMO not as balanced as it should be.

Sampled at EBF08. Black with a medium, fluffy, beige head. Milky and roasted aroma. Warming alko. Sweet fruits and chocolate/cocoa. Like a decent baltic porter.

Served a bit too chilled from a bottle at the Carlsberg Bar, European Beer Festival 08. Deep dark, rusty coloured body under a thin, brownish head. Sweet aroma of brown sugar. As it warms the flavour releases coffee notes followed by bittersweet chocolate, but not enough to counter the sweetness. A bit metallic in the mouth, but well hidden alcohol (12.09.2008).

[Sampled with the trio: Svoger, Svogergylp and Foged at EBF, 2008.] A surprise, but maybe not, because the carls stout is a similar good beer with above notes. Roasted nice malty sweetness with slightly smoke, coffee and licorice.

Sample at EBF Copenhagen. Nice head with excellent duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are caramel, roast malt and notes of hops.
