COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Collaboration with Hoppin’ Frog. Aged on soft maple wood.

In today’s fast paced world, it is often difficult to stop racing around and enjoy the good things in life that hard-working people deserve. For those who search for this long lost sense of leisure that is reminiscent of Southern living, slow down and kick back with Dan’l Webster. Like the racing frog from Mark Twain’s short story, this Imperial Porter will take you out of the race with its intensely heavy weight. With just a kiss of a new, experimental hop that has notes of orange, chocolate and coconut, and then aged on soft maple wood, this thick and satisfying porter is a great way to forget about the race, getting you one step closer to winning the marathon of life.

Bottle 650ml @ Hoppin Frog, Akron, OH
[Courtesy of Fred Karm] Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, cinnamon and lots of cedar wood. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long roasted, chocolate, caramel, cedar and spicy finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle, at Hoppin’ Frog. Courtesy of Fred. A black one with a dense beige head. Roasted, dark sugar aroma with roasted malts, some chocolate, licorice and molasses. It’s full bodied, lightly warming and smooth on the palate. Sweet malty flavor with roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate. Lasting finish. Wonderful. 150615

Pours this darker than black coffee with a dark caramel colored cinnamon hued head. Aroma is awesome, thick creamy chocolate bar, some burnt caramel and toffee, and malts so pleasant in the nose. The body is deliciously creamy with flavors of caramel, subtle tang, and rich roasted malts with delightful almost mocha notes to end.

Pours a deep burnt umber color with a quickly fading finger of khaki foam. Nose is burnt cocoa, salty peanuts, hint of raisin and dark fruit. Palate is smooth brownie batter on the front some nice roast, some twangy bitterness and strange but intriguing fruit notes. Plum, walnut, pine, toasted barley.

Bomber from Beerworld of Largo, FL, USD19. A healthy tan foam covers the blackness. Rich, fudgey, very chocolatey aroma with highly toasted, borderline charred wood which translates into higher acidity than I would have anticipated. Not surprisingly, this is in the rich, decadent mold, fulsome and sweet, but not overly sugary. Treacle, maple, ashes, vanilla, a lot going on, but all in the same wide range of specialty malt flavors. The hop hinted at on the label is not overly noticeable, but then again, the 10.5% ABV feels closer to 8%, so it is difficult to criticize the balance. Good malt extraction and not exagerated wood presence make it a satisfying offering, but I did not quite feel the beatitude that a price tag bordering $20 should warrant and I felt that the fruitless high acidity kept it back a little.

Serving: Bottle. Pours damn near black with a super dense light tan head. Great retention. Big roasty nose with notes of bakers chocolate, fresh ground coffee, and a slight fruitiness. Full bodied with a nice round mouthfeel. Coffee, chocolate, a touch of dried stone fruit, slight turbinado sugar sweetness. Well, sure seems like an imperial stout to me, but either way, it’s pretty darn good.

22 oz bottle. Psyched to try this after missing it at Philly Beer Week. Pours as thick as advertised; dark brown with tan froth. Nose is coffee, dark chocolate, wood, coconut and cardamom. Silky full body with a soft buzz. Yeah, this is a mouthfull with heat building deceptively in the finish. Taste is chocolate syrup, malted milk balls, caramel, slight citrus peel and cafe au lait.

Chocolate malty smell. Roasty malty taste with mineral water and light chocolate. Thinner body with medium to high carbonation.

Nice beer! Nearly black with a brown head. Lots of chocolate, some chocolate bread flavors, light woody notes, some molasses and prunes. Very hearty beer.

Poured dark brown, almost black with aromas of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, light coconut, and some light fruit. Flavors matched the aromas, very nice, great mouth feel, solid beer that I could drink a lot of.
