Reviewed from notes. Poured into a snifter. Color is a moderate caramel-copper color with some orange notes. Small white head that quickly dissipates into nothing. Nose is pretty strong booze with good notes of caramel, sweet malt, and fruit. The taste is a bit boozy, though not terribly so given the ABV. Good fruit presence. The feel is where the booze gets it, as itís hot even for its alcohol level. Drinks fairly well, but probably needs to rest for a long time. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-09-2010

Bottle kindly sent from Styles - thanks man! Muddy, raisin-brown in the glass with no head and initially healthy carbonation fading to a slow ebb of bubbles. Aroma is big, English barley wine with caramel, raisin/date, cherry, caramel, smoke, toffee, and sherry. Light oxidization with a heavy raisin, cherry, caramel flavor and a smooth slight alcohol finish. Big, thick, and enjoyable beer.

12oz bottle dated May 2008. Pours a brilliant clear reddish-amber color with a small but lasting light khaki head. Great malty aroma of caramel, toffee, molasses, and brown sugar. The flavor is really awesome. Huge toffeeish malts, rather English-style tasting, with brown sugar, marzipan, amaretto, maple syrup, and some faded hop resins. Sweet but great. Not too heavy on the palate with softer carbonation. Great barleywine, and it seems the age has treated it well.

In short: A surprisingly easy to drink very big beer of some kind
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed when over 1 year of age (2 years?). Bottle sent to me by dmschefke. Thanks a lot Dave.
The look: Cloudy purple body topped by a beige ring of foam
In long: Strong nose of figs, dates, toffee. Smells a bit like a bit like a cranked up dark English Strong Ale. Taste is full of red liquorice, barley candy, sherry, raisins, toffee, cherry tree, tobacco, dark fruits, bitter orange peels, caramel. Whatís really amazing about this one is that it did not feel very sweet or very boozy at all. Probably one of the less boozy (maybe THE less boozy) 12%+ beer Iíve ever had. I have a hard time to believe this is 15%. I had a buzz after my bottle so maybe it is indeed 15%. Wow, unreal. Body is not quite as big as I love from a big beer. I donít understand why they donít brew that more often or why they donít put an ďsĒ after Guy.

Bottle thanks to Styles. Pours reddish brown. Nose and taste of booze, dark fruits, molasses and brown sugar. Alcohol is really strong on the palate initially, but gives way to strong notes of raisin and prune in the finish.

This one was good for me, but in a strange way. I could not put my finger on any particular flavor, but they all went together ok. Again not off the charts but a solid offering. I would drink again, but I would not run out to buy.

Bottle from Silphium...thanks Brad! - Pours ruby amber, clear with an thin off-white head. Nose still with some a lot of heat, but I guess not bad for 15%. Raisins, a bit of caramel, candi sugar, but the smell is kind of vaguely sweet under the booziness. Taste is caramel and butterscotch, with some dark chocolate, booze, and bitter roast. Pretty watery, though slick and smooth. Expected way more out of this. Maybe I should have put it in the cellar longer.

Thanks to the Tampa crew for sharing this one. Pours dark amber with an off-white head. Nose is malt, booze, toffee, caramel, dates, plums, slight hops, and alcohol. Flavor is caramel, toffee, brown sugar, molasses, slight tart sweetness, and finishing sugary goodness. Medium bodied and enjoyable overall.

Bottle - thanks Cletus! Pours a pure amber with a short lived, thin beige head. Nose is rich with caramel, vinous bits, brown sugar, citrus, and some sherry. Drinks smoother than silk. Wonderfuly creamy, yet soft and buttery. Light florals, citrus, caramel, and thatís it. Not complicated, just sip it for an hour and relax. Delightful

Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a sweetish malty dark fruit aroma. Sweetish malty caramel and dark fruit flavor. Has a sweetish warming malty dark fruit and caramel finish with some weak hints of chocolate in the aftertaste.
