3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
2008 Bottle I think - Pours a hazy ruddy amber with a small off white head...aroma is massive, caramel, toffee, plum, dark malt...very thick and almost chewy even in the aroma...flavour is to be expected, very sweet brown sugar, old fruit, vanilla, some light hops and burnt sugar bitterness...abv is well hidden considering its level, this is a big beer...

From notes. 2008 bottle. Amber. Off white carbonation. Rich toffee like malt, dense dark fruits, sugary sweetness, toast, alcohol warmth. Full body, smooth, viscous, rich. Awesome barley wine, need to get a couple to age.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz. bottle from sprinkle. Pours a clear reddish copper color with a faint whitish ring and very little carbonation. The aroma is thick with caramel malt, ripe fruits (cherry, raisins), alcohol but in a good way. This alcohol is more like an apartif. The flavor is sweet chewy caramel malt along with a touch of roast. The fruits are cherry, raisin, and apricot all at the point of peak ripeness. There is some hop induced bitterness midway remaining to the finish. The alcohol is present but much like you would find with an after dinner drink and encourages you to savor each sip. I like the way everything plays on each other. Full bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel that is smooth going down. The alcohol is present, but never in a harsh way which serves to hide the true ABV. This is a very solid offering that I am glad to have had the opportunity to try.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Thanks to Styles for this bottle. Pours dark ruby brown with a decent beige head. Aroma is strong toffee with something like celery notes. Full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is toffee and cola with something like dates. It’s warming, but not hot. Finishes smooth. Sweet, but not excessively so.

Shared by bhensonb. Pours dark brown with a thin beige head and a sharp malt aroma. The flavor is raisins and caramel, and strangely hoppy too with a bit of pine and a warming alcohol finish. Complex and delicious.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This one poured a murky brown color with basically no head at all. Aroma was dark fruits, burnt sugar and lots of caramel. Flavor was much the same as the aroma with a big alcohol punch as well. A llittle over the top with nothing really standing out.

1.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
UPDATED: JUN 25, 2011 At the Pgh RB gathering 12/09. Big strong aroma. Orangy yellow in color. Strong and quite rude. Yes it is big alright. Not much to be enjoyed by a lager lover. You can certainly tell this has been aged, yet there is no milding of this stuff, ruffness lives on. Age has not taken the edge off fer sure. No detectable carbonation. Bottle is one year old. Finsh is alky linger. What else can be said but terribly on style, forget my numbers.
